USF4 ▶ High Level Goukens【Ultra Street Fighter IV】

Gouken's gameplay design is genius. He's an inversion of Akuma. Instead of being evasive and mix-up heavy, Gouken is very grounded and excels at set-ups and controlling space. Akuma wants to surprise and overwhelm with long combos, Gouken aims to shut down your opponents options and lock them down with the threat of hard-hitting punishes.

That Guile match was hilarious

He has the tools to be top tier but sadly his footsies is lacking his high pressure tools require him to be close range and his specials are all about throwing your opponent across the screen away from you with a few exceptions in his demon flip sweep and dive kick. He lacks any real high-low mix ups and has very few reversal options without spending 3 bars of meter for any of them. He is very good, but he requires a good bit of game knowledge and just knowing how your opponent plays. He can transition between rush down and zoning quite well but lacks any sort of jab pressure and his walk speed and back dash are pretty subpar. His forward dash is godlike though allowing him to keep up his pressure game or getting in for a cheeky throw. He can be a frame trap monster though. Over all he is vastly improved from his vanilla days and I really wish he would've made it into SF5.

I love how Gouken can shoot a Hadoken at the sky. It symbolizes his emphasis on defense and his direct opposition to Akuma as well as being his equal.

This was my favorite character in sf4! I was better with rufus, but gouken was absolutely my favorite to play. I love hard reads

Last match was much better then the ones prior, Guile is a really tough matchup because he can win the fireball game once he has an ex bar and he doesn't have to ever be the one to take a risk
