FOLLOW THE MONEY. Politicians don't live here. They live in the hills with the rich folks who give them campaign money to stay in power.

I have never seen an elected, Democratically progressive, politician take ownership of this. I am waiting.

i was stationed in Hawaii 20002-to 2005 and on the way from Pennsylvania back to base i would always get stuck in LA for a day or 2---i would walk around and just think this is is a dump like Cleveland lol and that was years ago

I happy for the locals that vote nothing but progressive democrat. This is the world you want and have asked for and it is not our business to take it away from you. Enjoy your neighbors.

I drive by a homeless chop shop on my way to work every day, corner of E12th and 16th Ave, you can even see it on google maps, it's wild how it's allowed to continue, and the city keeps dragging the carcasses away for the homeless so they can chop some more cars.

Time to build huge rehab where they must stay. If they do not have additiction, small housing to be able to work. People with mental problems also need a hospital to house them.

"Gone to hell in a hand-basket" -- No, more like gone to hell in an RV, stolen car, blue tarp, etc.

I'm an African American woman who grew up in Oakland CA during the 1960s and 70s. Because of this, I can explain how things got this way. As a child, I remember teachers and authorities making excuses for bullies, and coddling them. I also remember plenty of victim blaming. At my middle school, which was one of the better ones, an Asian, who was being bullied, snapped and stabbed his black tormentor with a butter knife. His parents sent him out of the country so he wouldn't face harsh penalties for killing a member of the protected class. I was fortunate to attend a Christian high school (which has since closed). I tore out of the city like a bat out of hell soon as I turned 18. It's by far the BEST decision I ever made. Why is Oakland like this? It's not the fault of Christian "oppressors", the Illuminati, capitalism, or any particular political parties. It is the mentality of criminal coddling, victim blaming, and being convinced the world owes them something.

Yeah - this is what happens when city officials spend all of the money they get from the state on 'abating' encampments instead of facilitating ACTUAL solutions. All of these people who are now living in scattered encampments all across the city were at the Wood street encampment for 15 years. Then the city came in and evicted everyone without providing them with any sort of alternative housing options.

Do an annual round up!! All vehicles unregistered and on private property get towed. All people on private property remove them and their stuff or go to jail immediately. It’s simple.
