Mike Bibby: The Final Piece of the Sacramento Kings “Greatest Show on Court” Offense | FPP

Published 2023-09-16
The Son of a former NBA player, Mike BIbby made his mark in two seasons at Arizona where as a freshman, he helped lead the Wildcats to the NCAA Championship. He began his career on the short lived Vancouver Grizzlies along with guys like Bryant “Big Country” Reeves and Shareef Abdur-Rahim, but they would have little success in his three years there. It was in the 2002 season, after he had been traded the Sacramento Kings, when his career took off. Bibby was the final piece to the Greatest Show on Court offense alongside Chris Webber, Peja Stojakovic, Vlade Divac and Doug Christie; as he helped lead the Kings to a Western Conference Finals appearance in 2002, which would become the most controversial series in NBA history. The Kings would never be able to recreate the same success and over the years, the once great team slowly fell apart. Bibby had some great years in the mid 2000s with Ron Artest and Kevin Martin, and some would argue that he deserved to be an all star at least once. However, in 2008, he would final starter from the ’02 Conference Finals team to go. He would join a young Atlanta Hawks team as a veteran point guard, and although he never had the same numbers as he did in Sacramento he was poised leader for a Hawks team that made some noise in the late 2000s. He would have a late career NBA Finals appearance with the Miami Heat Big Three of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh before playing his final season with the New York Knicks in 2012. He was a model of consistency and durability during his time in the league, however, this consistency would usually only extend to the regular season, as one of the postseason hit, you never knew what you were going to get from Mike BIbby. But all things considered, he is still one of the great overlooked point guards of the 21st century and deserves some recognition.

Mike Bibby, Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, Peja Stojakovic, and Doug Christie, who were key players for the Kings in the early 2000s, are underrated NBA players. In retrospect, the retirement of former Kings mainstays like Webber, Divac and Bibby was the beginning of a dark period for the team that lasted more than 15 years.

The ULTIMATE sneaker collector of Jordan’s!!!!!!!!

as a Laker fan of that era, my two most feared point guards, were Bibby and Parker, they can just tear through Laker defense at will.

27 TIMES!! That is an insane amount of times to go to the line in a quarter. And to not even have Peja for 4 games, and still come that close to winning, shows you how much better of a team the Kings were than the Lakers. There should be an asterisk beside that title, and Kobe and Shaq should have one less title, at least. They got plenty of help against the Blazers as well

So happy to see a video about Mike Bibby. He was a very good player. Big fan of the guy
  • I had a buddy who lived in AZ back when Mike Bibby was playing for Shadow Mountain HS.He would call me & rave about Mike..."He's the best high school player in the country!" .."Jason Kidd with a jump shot!!" Had me hyped to finally watch him at U of A.I dont think he lived up to his potential in the NBA, tho. When you take a pg #2 overall in the draft, you expect a future HOF'er.He was decent to good.
  • My guy Bibs!!!! A true PG who could score and do it all…. The Light skinned Hero to me coming up!
  • @isiahbraun8704
Ultimate pg just playing in a stacked era of great point guards
  • Fun fact: his Arizona teammate AJ Bramlette came from a HS In Albuquerque, NM…. I feel like that AZ team he was on had a lot of talent that was slept on.

  • @LiLxWEiRD0x
yeah his career definitely would’ve gone differently if the refs didn’t screw the kings out of that series and at this point was already proven that they did have a hand in rigging.
