Well now.. being called a horse is a first for me.

"WE'RE DYING".. Chops tree, full grown chicken walks by..*later* "STILL DYING"

Here is a few QOL tips... 1. Build your house offshore. The zombies and skeletons will NOT enter the ocean. They WILL enter the inland ponds. Also if you park your horse in the ocean it will stay there and not wander off. And the skels and zombies will not chase you into the ocean. They will stop at the edge and walk away... good way to take them out! 2. The electric control panel can only be mounted on walls without doors or windows and the lights only come on at night. 3. If you play the game too long it will glitch and get strange... I have had my bow and my titanium axe morph into a titanium pick axe. So exit out and restart after an hour or so. 4. The portal you entered is where you find the quartz and sulphur. There is a large amount of both about 200 meters south of the portal. Helpful hint... put a flag marker down by portal because it is easy to get lost. If you go down there to mine, it is best to carry a LOT of coconuts for a food / water / health source. 5. Currently the campfire is not working. It was working before the last patch... but now the windows are working! For now just use the forge / furnace to cook on. 6. There is a lot of confusion on how to get off the horse. By default it is the CTRL key... however if you have remapped your keys it will be the key that you use for CROUCH. Also, the strange POV you experienced on the horse was a result of running up to the horse and getting on. Walk up and it will be fine. Hope this helps!
