Metallica's bassist Robert Trujillo plays Flamenco on an acoustic guitar on the Death Magnetic bonus DVD. He is actually pretty good.

  • Everybody gangsta till the bassist starts playin' wild flamenco riffs.
  • Trujillo was the spark Metallica had lost. You can literally watch them get re inspired through him. Pretty rad to see.

The way that James just hears it once and instantly can replicate is so incredible.

The moment the lead guitarist realizes he’s the third best guitarist in the band...

1:34 that transition James added to the riff shows how talented he is at creating amazing rhythms on the spot

Legend has it that Kirk is still searching for the tabs to this riff.

Two things really stand out from this: 1) Trujillo is such a baller. 2) James knows it's gold and picked that up instantly, his ear and rhythm are absolutely unreal.

0:38 Kirk enters , Robert plays a cool lick and goes for a high five, Kirk senses competition and downsteps the high five.

1:15 I didn’t realize it until a second pass but we’re witnessing a magical moment here. That little lick is the same one used in All Nightmare Long, in the transition between the hook and the verse riff

"well the technique is just:" proceeds to shred on a acoustic guitar

Robert: you understand the notes? Kirk's brain: hmm where i can add wahhh

It's almost like he's a professional musician or something

Kirk is like "are they gonna Dave Mustaine Me?"
  • As someone who was in and out of bands all through high school, college, and up into my late 20's, now being in my mid-30s and having not played for years, James' "What was that thing you were doing?" at 1:18 brought a big ole' nostalgic smile to my face!
