Hi Everybody!

This week's video is really special to me! I have wanted to share my YouTube journey and how it's influenced my life, even though I'm not yet monetized nor do I have a huge following. Starting a youtube channel has been an overwhelmingly positive experience for me. I was concerned I was too old, or not interesting enough or not good enough at art. At first I thought I needed to figure it all before I started but I’m proud to say I didn’t wait for perfection to start. I found that like most things in life….. it often works best to not overthink it, jump in and just go for it. I’ve learned so much over these last 3 years about myself and it would have been such a waste to wait until I thought I knew everything to start and not get to learn so much about myself. I have also learned in this time what it takes to create a channel and build a community. The only way I could have learned all that is by doing….so I’m glad I decided to just “do.”

See, YouTube? Now THIS is a good recommendation!! And it's from a smaller channel, even better! Sorry, I'm very excited, this video speaks to me so much 😭 I'm a few years older than the majority of booktubers and I tend to let my ADHD run on camera, but you reminded me that someone might find it valuable ❤❤❤
  • @TjVoelkerArt
I'm older than you, by quite a bit and here I am, at 67 years of age, thinking about starting a youtube channel. Thank you so much for your vulnerability and for posting this. I don't know how I stumbled on to it, but I'm glad I did. Wishing you much success!

Loved this point: "just creating the video sends a message at least to myself that what i care about has worth and is important." Great video thanks!

Wonderful that YT is recommending good videos and also from creators that have a smaller channel. Thank you Heather for the video, helpful and authentic!
  • So glad YouTube suggested your channel. Thank you for sharing your journey. Definitely inspiring.

Fellow neurdivergent and disabled art youtuber here! I am so thankful I have found your channel! These points are all so helpful and encouraging, I am also someone that just cannot make videos that aren't authentic to me and aligned, it just does not work 😂. Having boundaries to rest and take care of our health issues is so important. Switching between editing and art making absolutely helps keep me from getting too bored or burnt out❤

Yesterday evening, for my BRAND on the Youtube Channel created for it, called WORK HARD PLAY HARD, and after much trepidation leading up to that, along with a couple initial "takes", sprinkled in with some minor-self-loathing overnite....i finally slapped it all together, rendered and uploaded it as #1. Thank you Heather for inspiring! ✌💜👊

❤Hi! I started Vlogging about 7years ago on and off and a lot of Changes happened in my life that made it hard to Commit. I’m starting slowly back up again and this video is giving me a lot of Hope! We can do it ❤

Thank you so much for your message and this video. This is my absolute sign to get started. I have to let go of the fear that’s keeping me from going through with this. So thank you again so much❤

Thank you so much for this video - the "beyond your prime" and being invisible as a woman is something I'm starting to feel, especially in the very ageist society (Korea) I live in. I appreciate seeing women from all kinds of backgrounds and at all stages of life sharing their art and creativity or personal life, even, and videos and hearing voices really makes me feel more connected than the endless curated images of social media overall. And you saying that you don't like to do the same thing all the time... that really is a lesson to learn. Balance is everything, and videos can celebrate that. I love your art supply videos, but it's always so much more interesting to see the person behind the art. <3
  • I'm so happy YouTube suggested your video to me! I relate so much to your story and we share a very similar "niche"! 💕I too am a creative multipassionate who struggles with disability/chronic illness and I also homeschooled my son who is now in highschool 😄This was so inspiring! Thank you for sharing your experience! 💕

I rarely comment, but thank you for sharing this video. It's people like you who give others permission to express themselves more freely and authentically; therein lies some of the magic of sharing your creativity with others.

  • I just started my youtube channel and felt a bit demotivated because I was stressing on views and subscribers but this video really changed my perspective.
  • Thank you for this! It’s exactly what I needed to hear today ✨ I’m just getting started with YouTube & still trying to figure it all out. The message in your video is inspiring ✨

Thank you for this! You basically spoke about every fear that I have. I will do this regardless of my fears. Thank you again❤
  • Thanks Heather, you are very inspiring! I've started YouTube at 52 years of age last year, and am learning alot about myself, just as you are. And learning self-acceptance and value. Thank you for sharing. ❤🙂
