See the rose gardens at Mottisfont in Hampshire at their best as we celebrate their 50th anniversary

An extraordinary sight awaits those who visit the Walled Garden at Mottisfont in Hampshire. More than 400 varieties of rose bloom in early summer, creating a floral world filled with colour. Welcome to the National Collection of Pre-1900 Shrub Roses.

In this video, you’ll go on a tour led by Horticulture Development Specialist, Emma McNamara, who’ll tell you about many of the rose varieties cared for at Mottisfont. The historical collection only blooms once a year, creating a spellbinding sight in June. Many people have visited this unique garden, including iconic Hollywood actress Audrey Hepburn.

Emma will also give you some top tips for growing and looking after your own rose garden, including ways to keep the blooms looking healthy and ensuring they flower well.

Created by horticulturist Graham Stuart Thomas, the world-class rose garden at Mottisfont is cared for by National Trust gardeners today. They make sure to keep it at its best, following the same design set out by Thomas in the 1970s. Parts of the walled garden are underplanted with a cooler colour palette, with white and silver flowers contrasting the pinks and reds of the central Rose Garden.
