LOT 16 suffered a hydraulic failure after departure in Newark and was faced with an alternate gear extension at Warsaw. However, when the pilots tried to lower the landing gear of the Boeing 767, nothing happened. After an hour of troubleshooting, LOT 16 made an all gear up emergency landing on Runway 33.
Find out what happened to LOT 16 today, in this episode of Airspace.

Oh dear. I think this is my favorite episode yet, from the "abrupt maneuver" through to the ultimate low-tech etiology.
  • @Patrikos.
I still remember watching that landing on TV, well done to pilots and ground crew 👏

Old saying. "Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing". Great job by the Airport Fire Crew on a wheels up landing.

To all the "D'oh!" commenters: please don't forget that hindsight is always 20-20. Yes, EVERYONE would have checked this or that or the other... It's so OBVIOUS... Except that it's only obvious after the event, when you're not gambling with 200+ lives in real-time. The good thing about failures like this (and I'm not pointing fingers at anyone from Boeing, the airline, or anywhere else) is that we all benefit from it. Nobody died! There was no ghastly recovery of bodies or salvaging of recorders or painstaking reconstruction of the plane's last moments - just a relatively straightforward sequence of events which led to an overall improvement in safety for all of us. The total loss of a plane but not a single life is a pretty small price to pay for such a valuable lesson.

What An amazing display of professional airmanship by the crew didn’t panic tried every possible scenario even contacted the manufacturer even the fire crew was completely and 100% prepared what amazing job

This was once again a concatenation of many unfortunate circumstances that allowed this accident to happen! Very interesting video, thanks for uploading

American Boeing fan here. I agree! What a mistake to locate important circuit breaker switches down at the floor. I’m hoping the 787 does not have same arrangement. Great video! 💛🙏🏼

The insurance company ended up being the only one who got hurt. Not bad of an outcome :)

Such a great explanation! I love the diagrams and pics you use to show parts and mechanism movement (like the manual gear down function. Really great work!
  • @1234fishnet
You're an expert on the ground, having all documentation available and you're not able to find all the necessary circuit breakers? As an engineer, I don't get it.
  • @gooner72
Clever idea to cover the runway with that foam, I think that this more than likely stopped an aircraft fire when she touched down. Thoroughly interesting and informative video mate, well done!!!

I think you're doing a wonderful, professional job of these presentations, I'm a recent subscriber and currently digging through your back catalogue. With time I suspect and hope your channel will eclipse the plethroa of rather terrible aviation incident report channels and be up there with blancolirio, flywire, flightchops, VAS and such.... well done, keep it up!
  • Very very good job on making complicated tech understandable for everybody! The recent growth of the channel is well deserved! Keep it up my friend :)
  • @Scyth3934
I'm going through every upload of yours and I'm LOVING it! Great job (for the second time)!
  • Awesome channel! Very professional and well done. I don't know why I didn't find it earlier. I am obsessed by aviation. I love everything about airplanes and flying.

Hmm, I don’t consider myself as exceptionally clever, but when you showed the first picture of the A1 circuit breaker I thought to myself: why do I see a panel of circuit breakers and…carpet? That is either a very odd place for carpet or for protruding electric components like circuit breakers. Oh well, seems my instinct was spot on.
