Cult-like customers have been raving about the shop for decades, saying it’s an “unchanged gem in a transforming neighborhood,” “an institution that has brought joy for generations,” and that “it was as good as I remember at 6 years old.” The family-run business continues to serve the same food since it opened and has had recent visits from Kim Kardashian West, Kendall Jenner, La La Anthony, and Food God, who documented his time there, saying, "Everybody's talking about this place! EVERYBODY!"

He's not lying. He faithfully stay open even during a blizzard we were having and everything was closed even Odessas and he was there and made us something. My dad always took me afterschool because he use to go when he was a boy when everything was about 5 cents. The classic drinks I grew up on from him are the lime Ricky's and the Vanilla egg cream. Aww sweet memories 💖💛

I worked at Ray’s part-time during the summer of 2010 when I lived in NYC for an internship. He’s exactly the same, I am stunned and pleased he’s still kickin! Back when I worked there he wasn’t supposed to have the fryers and they were in the back on the ground covered in news papers 😬 glad he got some ventilation or whatever permits he needed! I also got to serve Matt Dillon an egg cream and help a Polish guy translate who was stabbed in the park. One of the most interesting jobs I’ve ever had
