And welcome to the evening news for the Sacramento Area, where our first headline is a tragedy. A Beechcraft King Air crashed outside of the Sacramento Airport this evening. The aircraft had been en route to Concord from an origin not disclosed by the WAC. The pilot called the UNICOM frequency saying that quote "an engine had quit." A few minutes later, the pilot called again saying he intended to divert to Sacramento. After confirming with an Alaska Airlines flight that the arriving runway was 17R, the pilot turned into a right pattern downwind before reporting at an altitude of just 500 feet that power had been lost to both engines and that the plane would not make it to the airport. One passenger was killed on impact while the other three were injured to varying degree and the pilot received only minor injuries. The accident caused the Merrick Chevrolet race team to withdraw its current lineup from the NASCAR All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro. There is no news on the condition of any of the passengers.
