Boss: No blade or magic can hurt me! Yuna: I cast GUN! Boss: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Breaking the game with Trigger Happy on the original FFX-2 was my end goal for that game. It was deadly

FFXII, cool! Quickenings.... Aw man. In TZA, you can have a character equipped with the accessory that reversed effects of items, with the Zeromus summon, and Bubble effect. Bubble increases max HP, Zeromus comes out, throw an Elixir at him, he's at 1hp. His ultimate attack does damage based on the difference of his Current and Max HP. I had Ashe in my pocket with a quarter -million damage nuke whenever I needed it.
  • I'm seeing rightful mentions of Squall's Lionheart, so I'll instead throw in Wakka's Attack Reels. With a fully upgraded World Champion you can get 12 x 99.999 DMG, which isn't nothing.
  • Love that Angermax was actually mentioned. Barret with his ultimate weapon goes pretty insane with that limit break. And if you do factor in the overflow glitch, that technically would make it the most damaging skill in all of Final Fantasy by raw numbers alone. More so considering that you can potentially overflow so much that it goes PAST the integer limit a SECOND time back into the regular 9999 damage per hit. Sure that means getting 8 fully maxed out Knights of the Round, but that's insane to think about.

Loving John Oeth's renditions in the background

Say what you like about FFX-2, the Job System was pretty good, and the Gunner was some psycho Magical Girl with a Guns going all drive-by on fiends.
  • There's a slight workaround to the Catnip nerf that I always use. Rikku's regular (therefore the only attack she'll use under Berserk) Thief attack deals 2 hits of damage. Keep her HP in the yellow (which is easy to maintain, it is a fragile Thief after all), and she'll polish off superbosses' HP in minutes.

Shock in FFIX seemed oddly powerful when you first encountered it. I'd hold my breath every time Beatrix loaded it up.

Didn't see Death from Final Fantasy XIII. Nowadays, with the right setup, Death is limited to 999'999 damage per hit (that's already incredible), but in the Japanese 1.0 version, it was possible to do more than that. In Jap1.0 of 13, Daze (who doubles the damage inflicted) made possible to outpassed the damage limit of 999'999. The game is not capable of showing numbers with 7 numbers, so it was limited to 999'998, but the real damage inflicted was 1'999'998 (in one attack).

Wakka’s Attack Reels and Anima’s Oblivion overdrive should be here.

I use Rinoa's Meteor Wing on almost every playthrough when i'm not spamming Phantasm. I'm a crusader of Meltdown so...

IIRC, Yuffie's second third-level Limit break was 15 hits as opposed to Barrett's 18, but Yuffie's final weapon was an Ultima weapon that scaled her damage based on her HP. So at max HP, it was 15 9999 attacks. That's about the best I got there. :)

I never used the Locke build, but did something similar on Terra. If you use Terra's Morph sparingly against bosses, you could double her damage output, and I generally tweaked her stats so that she didn't really need Morph very much anyway, it was just to push the damage over the edge against the highest defenses, and that's when I didn't have a guide to completely break the game in half.

Thank you for covering Rinoa's 'Meteor Wing'. It doesn't get the respect it rightfully does. Magic at 255. Haste at 255. Auto-Haste. Meteor. I have defeated Omega, Ultima, and Ultimecia with just Rinoa before.

Aww no mention of some of the truly insane stuff in XI? Granted they nerfed some of these, but back in the day Scholar and Dark Knight were capable of truly devaating damage - even killing Absolute Virtue outright. SCH had a set of "Helix" spells, which did elemental damage over time. They also had an ability that when used, halved the duration but doubled the damage and that's where it got silly; multiple scholars in an Alliance could stack this command, so as long as they all chained it quickly enough you would still get off a single tick of damage as it kept doubling, potentially killing even AV outright as I said (hence why it got nerfed) And then again pre-nerf the haste cap was originally at around 93%, achievable only by Dark Knights using the Apocalypse Relic Weapon with the right buffs and gear. I believe this allowed them to swing roughly 5 times per second, it may have been even more than that. Here's the thing though - DRK would also combo this with their super, Blood Weapon to offset their Souleater ability which sacrificed 10% of their max life every hit to deal that much more damage (roughly). And Apocalypse being Relic, it had the ability to occasionally deal double or triple damage on swing. Again, this got nerfed because it too was used to cheese AV (or sometimes people would use the Kraken Club, a very rare weapon that could hit up to 8 times per swing) I haven't logged on in some time but the power creep has actually gotten even more insane lol with level 4 skill chains being possible, Blue Mages can use HNM (super bosses) attacks now while under the Unbridled Learning ability it's kinda wild. And lastly I think an honorary mention should go to the Hades + Added Effect and Phoenix + Final Attack materia combos in FF7, pretty degenerate stuff.
  • John Oeths Final Fantasy guitar playlist is gorgeous to go along with this fantastic video

I think a second Ultima Weapon (sword) could be stolen from one of the last enemies in the pillar before fighting Kefka in the final boss fight of the game, allowing for a slightly improved version of the Locke-build, but only for that battle.

In FF12: TZA, the strongest spell in the game, Ardor, does fire elemental damage. Some enemies are weak to fire (ie. Hellwyrm). On top of this, some enemies are susceptible to the Oil status, which increases fire damage taken x3. On top of that there are some equipment in the game which increase elemental damage done. in this case, the Fire Staff. Combine all of this with the fact that you can have 3 active party members (plus a guest, in some cases), each who can be assigned 2 classes. There is also a spell called Reflect, which reflects all instances of a spell from the target. With all this, you have the potential to do hundreds of thousands of damage every few seconds if you have 3 black/red mages each with Ardor, the reflect status, and the proper gear. You can even use some items, or reserve party members with different classes to buff your main party further and deal even more damage. The potential for dealing high damage is there, but it's only really possible or needed in a very small section of fights in the game.
