Kevin Richardson shares an extraordinary bond with Africa’s most fearsome predators, and together with them, he has experienced quite some adventures. However, moving 28 lions and 14 hyenas to a new home presents a different challenge.

The lions’ new home will be a sanctuary on the edge of Dinokeng, a South African game reserve spanning 18,000 square metres. A huge task lies ahead of Kevin: planning and designing the new enclosures and securing permits to move the animals.

To prevent stereotypical behaviour developing out of frustration and boredom, Kevin tries to make sure his animals live as enriched of lives as possible. The animals are therefore regularly rotated into new enclosures, encouraging them to explore and establish new territories as they would in the wild.

  • Just a heads up for everyone this is an old video. The reason why he moved and started his own sanctuary is because he found out that the park he was previously at was raising lions to be trophy hunted. He managed to rescue and move them successfully into his sanctuary where they reside today. Kevin has a youtube channel called “The lion whisperer” where you can see them.

I’m STUNNED that these giant lions and lionesses behave like kittens around him! They treat him like part of their pride! 😱🤯
  • He’s got the best job anyone could hope for. What a privilege to be able to interact with these animals every day.
  • Incredible!! You don’t realize how big they are until you see them next to Kevin.

All animals should be free, and so should mankind, bless this man for his love. 🙏
  • The bond Kevin has with these animals always amazes me. He's so gentle with them.

Kevin is just an unreal dude, to play tug of war with a freaking hyena holding her teeth, or wrestling with a giant male lion, or hang out with them like one of the clan members. And they respect and trust him so much. Its crazy.

Kevin is a true human being who deserves to be recognized world-wide for the wonderful conservation he has done. Just like Steve Irwin. The best friend the critters ever had. We need more like him in this world.
  • Kevin is one of my favorite people. I've learned so much from his YouTube channel.

I consider it an honor to be a part of this wonderful organization; both the Richardson Foundation and the Land for Lions project. You too can be a part of all of Kevin's work to save these magnificent animals.
  • It's a beautiful thing to see how he interacts with such powerful animals and the trust they have in him. I would love to spend just a few minutes with such gorgeous cats.
  • @IslandKate
You realize how much Kevin and the lions have slowed down and become a gentler bunch when you see these earlier vids. I forget how rambunctious they were. Poor Kev got tough love indeed. ❤️

2024 Kevin still going strong with all his lions/animals! I love watching all his videos on YouTube. He’s truly the lion whisperer. We love and miss you Amy! Meg still going strong with Kev! ❤❤

  • @jritechnology
Kevin! Kevin is awesome with the Lions and Hyenas and Cheetahs and Leopards! Love Kevin's work immensely...it's sad that a few of the lions in this video are no longer alive.
  • This man has an incredible bond with the animals. It takes serious nerve to be in the midst of these beasts and believe there will never be a bad day when any of these animals can go berserk
  • Watching Kevin try to feed Nakita is hilarious, just like my cat trying to trip me up.
