I painted a '64 corvette with black spray can duplicolor for about $200 bucks and got over $60,000 for the car. I was honest with the buyer that it was Acrylic Lacquer paint, but I left out the spray can part. But it shined like a brand new car. The secret is careful preparation, sealing, lots of paint, wet sanding and carefully buffing. These Rustoleum jobs are not BS, they can look great.

Hey man ,just want say that I think most of these people in the comments absolutely forget what your focus is on your channel. ITS FOR THE REGULAR GUY TO BENEFIT FROM KNOWLEDGE THAT CAN HELP HIM SAVE MONEY AND STILL DO THE JOB!!!!. Your channel does just that .I've saved thousands. I'm sure others have too. Keep doing what you're doing and saving us money, time and effort. Peace

Do you know how many dudes would have never shown the runs just to fib the job? But you took accountability for your bad and didn't even blame the paint like some would. Good on you brother πŸŽ‰

Nice job and excellent honesty about what went wrong. I'm impressed!

I had a deadline, so as soon as I saw that metal starting to cry, I wiped those tears off the entirety of the vendor very meticulously might I add. Then i sprayed that thing as the surrounding paint was beginning to tack up. It worked! GREAT VIDEO. THANKS

I'll take that $150 paint job all day

Love it man, going to attempt my first one next spring, this was a really good diy video, everybody else says do all the extra prepping, but for folks with project cars & not caring for a perfect but decent looking paint job without doing all the extra bs this is the video!

That layed out pretty good for single stage. You hoged it on pretty good. As it dries it should lay even flatter. Tons of haters. What more can you expect from a garage paint job. Looks good for the money. πŸ‘πŸ‘

Single stage paint jobs are perfectly acceptable. I've done hundreds. For a while I used a "recipe" that worked really well. It was basically a cheap enamel mixed with a good brand name catalyst and high-end reducer. It worked very well, laid down smooth, and stayed nice and glossy for years later. I even did a few family members' cars this way. Now you won't colour match and blend with the same success as 2 stage jobs, but for low cost, all-over jobs, it worked fine and had very acceptable results. Practice and knowing your equipment will go a long way to preventing runs.

Always start at the top first and and work your way outwards. That way you have less chance of runs due to excessive paint (although I think you just laid it on way too thick on the side of the hood) and less chance of you or your air hose rubbing up against wet paint. For a first time, not bad. My first time I mixed the paint/thinner ratio backwards and got spit balls all over the hood. Paint was way too thick for the gun to atomize. Fortunately it was fairly easy to remove them, remix, and shoot again. Came out great. Live and learn. As for the naysayers here, LEARN FROM HIS EXPERIENCE so you don't make the same errors. As for the runs, there's a technique you can use to remove runs, although you have a LOT there. spread a thin layer of bondo over the area, let it dry, and start wet sanding it. The bondo protects the lower paint while you sand off the runs. As you get close to level, use finer wet sand paper. As soon as all the bondo is sanded away, the runs will be gone too. Takes practice so you don't sand right through the paint. For you, I'd re-sand the whole fender and edge of hood and re shoot.

I'm definitely coming around to this type of painting. I follow Paint Society and Moore's Motorsports too for context. I think an all of the above approach to life's solutions can be a great way to get out of our boxes. I'm not a high end guy and I like the grungier lived in look but I can start to dig this.

A perfect example of taking a few more steps with a little more money pays off in the end.

I’m going to restore an old Chevy 4WD. I plan on taking it down to the frame. I’ll have a shop paint it. New fenders and panels do not look too expensive. I learn a lot from YouTube.

Marco, you don't know how many times I have gone to correct a small area and had to redo a whole bunch more πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™‚οΈ Truck looks good, huge turn aroundπŸ‘πŸΎ.
  • Haven't sprayed much for years. But I always put the first coat on as a tack coat only. First coat runs extremely easy.
