Wow, I am lost for words at the support and love this story is receiving! Thanks for giving this film a chance and joining us on our journey! We are both so thrilled! Phanden wanted to let everyone know that although he is no longer guiding Everest expeditions, he is still available to guide the Everest Base Camp Trek, as well as the high pass trek, and more. If anyone or any group is interested in trekking in the area soon, I'd highly recommend him (although, I might be biased :D). I've left his email in the description of the video. Please reach out! Thank you all once again, my heart is so full right now.

I love that Luke made the video all about Phanden rather than about his own quest. Inspiring.
  • We don’t hear much about the Sherpa’s life, emotions, goals, challenges and families. Thank you for giving Phanden a spotlight. Amazing video.

This is not about visiting the basecamp - this is about a sherpa and his life. SO beautiful bro keep your work going can't wait to see more!
  • The moment Phanden said 'no'. WOW. The power of a decision. He actually managed to choose his family over such passion.

This man only ever returns to post bangers

I've never seen any of this kid's videos before and just happened on this one by accident, so it's the very first one I've ever watched and I can already tell that he has one hell of a future ahead of him. Such an excellent video that honestly deserves to be seen on far more than just YouTube! I will definitely be watching more.

15:10 when he says “because I already promised I’m not coming back” his voice says it all… the experiences he had, good and bad and also the wish to be on top again and still bound by responsibility… sounded like he has to stay away from his love for something which he shall not get to experience again for the greater good… it is a love story !
  • I've known the Guide for more than 20 years now (visited Nepal 5 time). Phanden Sherpa is a True Legend and one of the best human beings I ever met in my life. No kidding. Great video too!

As a nepali I am proud of my people . People like phanden really set an example of our culture and our values . Thank you Luke for showing this amazing work to people around the world. ❤ 🇳🇵

Whenever you get lucky enough to find a guide who will invite you into their home and meet their family, it’s incredibly special
  • Putting this Nepalese fella in the spotlight you did the world a good deed. Thanks for sharing such a wholesome story.
  • The Sherpas are not just carriers, they are true world class athletes. They just dont make a fuss about it, like your local dentist who did it one time

Out of all the high altitude climbing docs I've watched on Youtube (and believe me, I've watched them all) - this has got to be my favorite. I loved watching your friendship. So much more than a silly, selfish climb to the top. And it was hard enough as it was just trekking to base camp. I am glad that Phanden will no longer have to struggle on that mountain again. That he will live to be old with his wife. That he feels lucky to be alive. That he still respects the goddess. I am happy to see an American who's not summit-crazed, who's kind to all he meets and has a willing heart to understand others and their stories. This was a truly beautiful, poignant doc about two human beings. If anything - I wish it was longer so I could get to know Phanden even better. He seems like an awesome human being!

I grew up a fan of television. Today it's mostly binge watching random yt videos. In the countless number of videos, you always know when you see something that stands out and is special. Great job.
  • @dandymcgee
It's so cool that you gave Phanden the opportunity to revisit such an important place in his life, without breaking his promise or putting him in danger. A walking legend.

If YouTube had awards this video would surely win something. It brought tears to my eyes because it was and wasn’t about Everest. Beautifully done Luke. Thank you.
  • I just watched this twice in a row. Absolutely fascinating how it became about your journey, and then about him. Never quit telling your story Luke

This is my first time gifting someone on youtube, but content like this deserves all the praise. Well done for posting such an amazing video and story.
