But McCartney's most enduring relationship remains his three-decade marriage to his first wife Linda Eastman, the New York photographer who captured his heart and stood loyally by his side until her untimely death from breast cancer in 1998 at just age 56. Even two subsequent marriages later, McCartney still feels Linda's presence and influence profoundly. Now as the legend passes another milestone, he's admitting publicly in an exclusive interview that she was the one who truly defined him.

Why does McCartney feel so compelled to make this soul-baring confession now about his never-forgotten first wife? What did the self-made American woman - so unlike the showbiz types McCartney was used to - mean to him at the height of Beatlemania and beyond? How did their artistic and romantic bond inspire breakthroughs for his songwriting and family life? What indelible impact did losing her have on McCartney and his career? And after rollercoaster flings and rebounds that left his image reeling, why does he credit Linda with anchoring his most meaningful growth into elderhood?

Whether a longtime McCartney fan or newcomer curious about the man beyond the hits, our video offers an intimate look at the profound confession from a pop icon who found his true soulmate in a storybook romance cut short by fate's cruel hand. Even as he continues making history into his ninth decade, McCartney realizes no one ever matched Linda's magic.

  • I think Paul understood full well he was lucky to have such a strong, loving down to earth woman by his side.

I loved Linda McCartney, she was a very down to earth woman who did not give a crap what people thought of her, I loved her photography, I loved her humanity and her love for animals held no bounds it was unconditional. My children and I enjoyed her pasties, sausages, and I still to this day buy Linda McCartneys. I can remember her being diagnosed with breast cancer and thought that she was going to recover she was such a good strong good hearted woman 😢❤
  • Linda was his soul mate, she was down to earth.. They just clicked together, and having children , liked Paul said, they also have alot in common.. If she was still around they would still be together.. ❤❤

No big surprise there. It was Linda. I'm sure they would have stayed together too, both being family types. She was a good mother I think.
  • I remember feeling so happy hearing of the marriage of Paul and Linda. I loved Linda.

"Maybe I'm Amazed", was written for the lovely Linda, that says it all!

Big Beatles fan & fan of Paul. Linda was creative, too. She never tried to "clip his wings" creatively. She understood artists need a "home life", too! I was heartbroken when Linda died. I'm happy he didn't close off his heart and in doing so, has found "true love" again. Very happy for Sir Paul also known as "Grandude". 😊😊
  • Linda was all in. She filled the Jane space and more importantly, the Lennon space. Paul relied on her for his support system. She was confident in herself.

Linda was his true love because of her patience inteligence and devotion to Pauls wellbeing. What people don't know is that Linda also had the magical healing touch.
  • Linda protected Paul..she had his back. I knew that he would be ok when he let her love him. He loved that she was the best mom. He's good with wife now. She's warm&kind.

Is this actually news for those of us around at the time! It was obvious to everyone their relationship was as good as it gets! He never let her down caring for her to the very end🌹

You don't always get the opportunity to be with your soulmate, most people settle for being comfortably numb, or tolerating someone they don't like because it makes sense financially. Losing somebody like Linda for him must be still hard to deal with after all this time. You can't fault the guy for trying again, even if he wasn't compatible with Heather. I hope he has found something similar with his current wife. I didn't find my soulmate until I was 51 years old. Thank God I did though. So I can truly understand what Linda meant to him. All the power to him

Linda was his rock! Strong, beautiful and modest. Definitely the best he ever had! Too sad she was gone so soon otherwise they'd still be together.

No surprise - it was obvious at the time that this was a monumental connection. RIP lovely lady.

I was unaware Paul had 're married after Heather, but then ill health means I missed a lot of goings on. I grew up with the Beatles era and loved their music. I wish Paul all the best for the future and thank him for the memories

God bless him. It’s very tough trying to find someone genuine in the spheres of fame: I am glad he and his current wife have found a happy union. It’s what Linda would have wanted. Heather Mills one puts down to experience- haven’t many of us had a ‘Heather?’ It will all work out.
  • Paul and Linda had a love that was beyond words. Their love was something special and different. They brought out the best in each other. They were supportive of each other. Their love story will go down in history as one of the greatest loves in the world 🌎. They were soul mates. Paul and Linda will always be in love with each other. Beautiful together ❤️ 💕.
