An inspector visits Clarkson's Farm as the row over the Diddly Squat rages on

Published 2023-03-24
Jeremy Clarkson is no stranger to controversy. Following the success of the Amazon series, his farm shop near Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire welcomes thousands of visitors from around the world, much to the frustration of many locals. But today the site also hosted a planning inspector, as the row over what’s been going on a Diddly Squat rages on.

It's hard to understand why a local council can be so ignorant. This little shop is a lifeline for local farmers produce and probably brings a lot of tourist dollars to the area. Jeremy deserves a medal for perseverance !

If the locals are fed up, they should back Clarkson and get that car park approved!
  • Having watched Clarkson's farm and followed his efforts to add to its ability to create a better cashflow chance ,and also to provide some welcome business to other local farms resulting in improved employment for up to a100 local people. I feel that the local council is operating some sort of vendetta against it.

It is ironic that councils give permission for thousands of houses to be built that nobody can afford but refuse permission for a business that will contribute to the local economy in several ways.

What amazes me is how much regulation that England has. From not being able to protect your livestock to can't even move dirt to fill a hole. I'm surprised Jeremy doesn't have to pull a permit just to go to the bathroom in the morning!!!

Yes, the road does get congested but there are two more roads leading from Chadlington to the A361. The problem is one or two local people that have a real vendetta against Jeremy and a council that have no imagination. However, they have given Diddly Squat some marvellous publicity that will see more queues throughout this summer!
  • Such a great example of small minded councils in the UK given a little power. Obstructing value adding commerce to the area. Think of where else these farm customers may also be spending money. The local village shop, pub, petrol station etc…. Think of the impact if the farm can not diversify and has to close because farming no longer covers the bills? Now what happens if it’s 3 or 4 farms in the area as government grants end.

I can sum the planning inspectors up with one word ‘Tossers” It’s their job to make things as difficult as possible not just for Mr Clarkson but for anyone they go to visit. They are special people, they don’t have any friends, they never ever smile or laugh and on their days off they sit and think how they could be more difficult with people than they were the week before
  • It’s the council that are causing problems for the locals not the shop. Any normal council would be saying the car park must be extended to relieve congestion and parking, not banning a larger carpark
  • It's all because he is a celebrity who does not tow the line and he will speak his mind, which as we know in today's society is very much frowned upon.

Well done Jeremy, keep the video's coming, they are helping the farmers who feed us, not the bureaucrats !.

What I really like about Jeremys farm is he is doing everything the right way ecologically, I appreciate it's in an AONB but 70 space car park is not going to do any real harm. And he definitely should have been allowed the restaurant. bottom line, that council are a disgrace.

Go on Clarkson stick it right round them 😂😂
  • @richard1403
Allow him to have his car park then problem solved.
  • Nothing that the central planners hate more than a successful operation. The only issue is the lack of parking so they won’t want that sorted. This is actually like UKPLC in microcosm. That which we do achieve is usually despite the States “help!”😂
  • He should get a few thousand pigs, Don't think one needs planing permission for running animals on ones land. Put the resulting slurry on the land as fertilizer. This will give the complainers something to really complain about.
  • How dare they drive on a public highway to visit a farm shop in our green and pleasant land. The locals complaining about not wanting to go out because of a few extra cars in the vicinity of their community is a joke. They want the countryside to themselves. Well I've got news for them. The land belongs to the people and not to a few over indulged locals. Keep up the good work Clarkson.

This “local” council must be getting to be known as the “laughing stock” council. Jeremy is trying his best to build up/support the local area, and the council is doing their best to stop him at all costs. How can people this incompetent get these positions???

After watching the show , reading the councils statements on social media. Its there for all to see that the local council want to shut everything down. They have no regard for support of the local farmers or the farm. They have pursued a vendetta that is distasteful in their use of law and rules to ensure their plan.
