Inspiration came from the Predator Alien Spear which expands at the push of a button! Unfortunately I haven't been enlightened with alien technology so this is the best I can do! There's always room for improvement! POST SOME UPGRADE SUGGESTIONS!

BUY [✓] Extending Pole: amzn.to/2xmWDZx (affiliate link) The internal mechanism is like a metal measuring tape that slides down the side of the pole, around the bottom using a rolling mechanism, and then backup the opposite side where it is secured down by a screw. I forget exactly how it is all held together but the part of the pole that the spear head would go onto is being pushed up by the measuring tape metal material. It's not really solid until it all locks into place. It's a pretty clever design.

"very sturdy" You should test that out with some stress tests. Also check your local laws about this type of weapon. The fed doesn't usually like things which extend or can be folded up.
