Jacob’s Journey: Living with Bipolar Disorder

Published 2024-07-16
In this heartfelt interview, Jacob, a former colleague, shares his profound journey of living with Bipolar Disorder Type 1. Diagnosed in 2019 after a manic and psychotic episode that lasted eight months, Jacob opens up about the challenges and triumphs he’s faced since then, including two more episodes that lasted six months each. With the support of an early intervention team, he has navigated his mental health journey with resilience and courage.

Jacob reveals that his initial episode was triggered by the immense stress of dealing with a chronic skin disease, which resulted in frequent hospital visits. His struggles were compounded by a tragic past; losing his mother at the age of six and his father at ten, followed by years in foster care from which he was expelled at seventeen. Despite these hardships, Jacob has found solace and expression through being in bands, starting a holistic business, and engaging in voluntary work.

Describing his psychosis as a spiritual experience, Jacob recounts hearing celestial voices and having profound, real-feeling experiences. He also developed a passion for crystals and experienced Astral Projection in his dreams. These spiritual encounters have had a significant impact on his life and healing journey.

Jacob emphasizes the importance of therapy and medication, sharing how opening up about his story was emotionally transformative. He also speaks about a recurring symbol he used to draw, which he later discovered was an angelic symbol for projection. This symbol and other spiritual experiences have provided Jacob with comfort and guidance.

Throughout the interview, I share my own experiences of profound spiritual moments following my mother’s death, including a transformative Gong Bath and a powerful Reiki session. We discuss how trauma can illuminate dark spots in our psyches and awaken us to deeper truths.

Jacob’s message to viewers is clear: “Don’t be afraid to talk about it. Especially as men, it can be hard to be vulnerable. Surround yourself with the right people, and if you don’t have that support, reach out to charities and the NHS. Have valor, be brave, and be honest with yourself.”
