Gilas Pilipinas, despite missing Jordan Clarkson, achieved an upset victory over host Latvia in the FIBA OQT, propelled by Justin Brownlee's near triple-double (26-9-9) and strong showing from Kai Sotto. The victory against Latvia puts Gilas Pilipinas in a promising position to advance to the OQT semifinals. On top of that, the Philippines claimed their first win against European opposition in an official FIBA competition since 1960.

Gilas Pilipinas actually winning something in the world level means a lot to us fans. We've been hoping for a moment like this to come.
  • Man oh man! This is huge for me! We haven't beaten a European Nation in basketball for 64 years! And to beat a powerhouse like Latvia just blew my mind! Go Gilas! Laban Pilipinas!

They all did great but I must commend Kaiju in this game. He did very well in his defense and offense. More to go Gilas! Congrats!

As a Filipino, even though phones are prohibited from my job, we still watched it. Expected gilas to be close. Maybe lose by single digits at the least. But from the first quarter alone we knew that this squad was different. They played with passion (more than usual bc Filipinos play with heart always) and even the coaching staff showed passion. Well deserved win.
  • The new head coach of the Philippines really wanted to make a new image for Gilas by changing its playing system. He is now totally enough of previous image of that team due to previous playing style and system. I'm hoping that this victory will be the start of a better Gilas 🇵🇭
  • What a performance by Gilas Pilipinas, we hope that same and hopefully an improved performance vs Georgia. LABAN PILIPINAS!

Great job boys! Mad respect for the entire Gilas team and coach Tim Cone.
  • Huge part of the team winning is because of our Coach, unlike before lots of politics and drama happening inside Philippine Basketball

  • Congrats Gilas Pilipinas for a remarkable win against number 6 seeded Latvia.

Well let's be real, this is not that big of a surprise,at least for me.Gilas by strength level is pretty much the same as current Turkey or Italy and those are not the teams you can beat on one leg.I hope Latvia and Philippines will meet again in the final game of qualifiers.Seems pretty possible scenario at the moment
