Today I want to take a closer look at freighters within the Star Wars universe, with a focus on the Corellian Engineering corporation. We'll talk about all that and more on today's Star Wars Legends Lore video.

My theory is it's a design that works. Why mess with it

This is like saying "why do all cargo trucks look the same?" They're designed for a specific task so they have a specific look
  • Biggest problem with the small freighters we see in Star Wars is they were obviously designed by someone who had no idea about logistics. Rather than a spacious cargo bay with easy on/off loading access we have something where crates usually have to be carried by hand through narrow corridors without a designated storage location just being piled wherever there is spare floorspace (be it corridors or communal rooms).
  • This is your Corellian freighter. There are many like it, but this one is yours.
  • I like the idea, I think it was from Force Unleashed concept art, that the 'pinchers' on the front of the YT-1300 were the attachment point for a train of X-Wing-style standard cargo containers to drive forward with the oversized engines at the back.

Honest review of Massaman Curry Vite Ramen: it's so freaking good. I love it. I haven't tried the peanut butter, but agree with removing nearly all the water and making it more of a curry paste than a watery, brothy ramen.
  • Okay, but what about Non-CEC light freighters, like the Mandal Motors Lancer-Class pursuit craft? It's a bit more militant than your average YT, but it's still a light freighter, and you can see the design similarities.

It wouldn't be surprising to see some CEC YT series ships converted into heavy gunboats and used as budget system patrol crafts or as planetary defense "fighters"
  • Wow for the first time since probably ever a Star Wars YouTuber finally shows the YT-1000 Light Freighter! That’s my favorite ship in all of Star Wars
  • @leecoates3674
I always thought of Corellian ships to be like Mustangs, where there were a mind boggling list of customisation from the factory
  • @grantpark9093
I am reminded of the quote and short story title "There's no such T'ing as a 'stock' light freighter Boy!" from the 1987 sourcebook

CEC comes off to me as basically the "Subaru" of Star Wars. Like Subaru's cars, CEC's ships are rugged, durable, based on a small number of common modular platforms and designed to be modified. You could draw a parallel between the Impreza platform and the YT-1300 - the YT-1300F is like the Subaru Baja, built primarily to carry cargo, while the YT-1300P is like an Impreza, designed to be a quick, no-nonsense passenger ship. And of course the YT-1300FP is a bit like the Outback Impreza Sport, providing a bit of everything. And then the Millennium Falcon is that twin turbo LS swapped Outback Impreza Sport sleeper car that you see every day in town, half the time doing hard pulls down main street and the other half parked outside the mechanic's shop with the hood open.

If it works keep it If it fails fix it If it needs improvement do it
  • @casbot71
I feel sorry for the honest cargo haulier whose stock YT-1300 by coincidence had the same layout as the Millennium Falcon. They're doing a legitimate cargo run and aren't anxious when a squadron of Tie Fighters approach them, assuming they are doing a anti pirate patrol. Next thing they are being strafed while capital ships drop out of hyperspace near them and start locking on.
  • With as small as the falcon is in the grand scheme of Star Wars it more fits into the role of a courier ship. Especially with the modifications available to the hyperdrive. To call it a freighter is a stretch unless you’re a crime lord looking to sneak some “freight” past a blockade

Lot of people miss that Star Wars is Techno Barbarism. People in universe rather rediscover long forgotten technology then invent new things.
