Join me as I follow Cloud and friends out of Midgar and into a world that seems stranger still. It's time for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to shoulder Remake's multiverse of baggage, but is it up to the task?

Came here from Think Before You Sleeps channel.
  • The issue with Rebirth and Remake is that both games set out to answer questions that nobody ever asked in the first place.

I think what annoys me the most is after all of this, Sephiroth's plan is literally the same thing but with multiverse. Not only that, but his plan is terrible. Dude couldn't beat one Cloud, so he creates infinite Clouds to whoop his butt harder. He even tries to kick Zack and Aerith out of the pocket dimension because he can't handle Cloud having teammates.

I just want to say that I saw a tweet about this video and how it's a grift, but seeing the part about Barret and Dyne really communicated everything I was thinking and more. I really cannot bring myself to play more of that game since then. The issue with Rebirth is that it decided the only way to remake FF7 was to be loud, to be spectacle after spectacle. OG FF7 was a blockbuster from top to bottom, but knew when to stop and to deliver on emotional beats that deserved its time. Now you cannot even let the viewer experience Barret grieving without throwing a Palmer comedy show and a RE5 gatling sequence. I think Rebirth marks a point where the FF audience doesn't want to think, they don't even want a story, they just want FF to be the warm blanket of their childhood and Rebirth provides that. At that point what more is there to expect?
  • I see fans of FF6 and 8 upset that 9 is supposedly getting a remake before them and like…. Y’all should BE HAPPY that square isn’t going to destroy those games

This is the best analysis I have seen of this game's glaring issues. And I was so optimistic at the beginning thinking squenix finally figured it out but man that excitement disappeared quickly, and the majority of this game just felt like a chore. If not for my love for the og i wouldn't have even made it past junon but I pressed on, and this game just confirmed my fears when I first finished remake. That squenix is too far removed from the squaresoft days to capture the magic of what made us love the og ff7 in the first place. I thought I was going insane when I saw og fans overtly praise this game like it's some masterpiece, so thanks for this
  • What bothered me the lot was how they handled Aerith s death. The reason why her death was so shocking and heartbreaking was how sudden it was and how simple in the original game. It wasn t about multiverses flashbacks and segments of Cloud s crazy mind. Cloud s monologue felt so genuine and so heartbreaking struggling to come to terms with the loss of his friend. The way the team members came up to Aerith one last time felt like a proper goodbye. They were pretty basic 3d models but you could feel the sadness in their gestures. Meanwhile in 2024 the flashbacks only caused confusion and made Aerith s death lose its impact. I remember 15 year old me crying my eyes out when i first played the original game here i just felt emptiness. I absolutly hate game remakes 90% of them focus on graphics and "fan service" instead of giving us back the beautiful story we fell in love with.

Man I thought I was crazy having such problems with the writing in this game I'm glad more people are criticising it. Such a waste of ambition, and a watering down of all the original's themes

Sometimes you come across a video that so perfectly captures everything that needs to be said about a work, with not a word wasted. This is one of those videos. Excellent work

Saw a clip of this on twitter talking about how Rebirth failed to capture the emotional depth of the Dyne scene... never have I ran to a video faster because YES. Rebirth remakes all of these iconic scenes, yet aside from having big emotional music and cool camera shots, they lack all of the substance. I'm glad others feel that too.

Finally some critique of this mess, you could really think its the second coming of christ and can do no wrong just looking at fanboys praise. But they cannot fool me with production values, this got nothing on original.
  • @ODBHero1
THANK YOU!!! My friends just dont understand why i REFUSE to play Remake. I keep telling them that if i want to play FF7, I'll play the original. I knew in my gut that I personally had no reason to play this FF7/KH game.

Remember that from 2005 up to early 2020, nearly every Final Fantasy 7 fan asking for a Remake was a "Purist". Now it's supposedly a bad thing? I don't think so. Proud FF7 "Purist" right here.

This video came via recommended due to seeing other FF7 Rebirth content. I 100% agree with your summary of the game. after several months of playing it, i called the very definition of a 6 or 7 out of 10 on a podcast. Excellent video

  • one of the best deconstructions of ff7 remake ive seen. something didnt seem right to me and this criticism hit every one of the issues that I percieved. I was open minded and minus the last 10 percent of the game I really did enjoy it but it felt soulless
  • @Capydapy
It's pretty clear that they're doing all this to twist and re-shape the original FFVII so it fits in more with Crisis Core and Advent Children. I have a strong feeling that after the credits roll on part 3 will see a quick cut scene of AC! Cloud next to his motorbike and putting on his driving goggles and then driving away, instead of Nanaki/Red XIII and his children looking at the ruins of Midgar centuries later. This remake, in short terms is a big "fuck you", from SE to those who hated the sequels/prequels because they felt like retcons too much from the OG. They even re-released AC in cinema's for a short bit before Rebirth's release.
