Hurricane Beryl bore down on the southeast Caribbean early Monday, regaining Category 4 strength after briefly dropping to Category 3.
Late Monday morning, Beryl intensified and now has maximum sustained winds of 150 mph, making it the strongest an Atlantic hurricane has been this early in the calendar year, according to Philip Klotzbach, meteorologist at Colorado State University.
