Direct Drive wheelbases have exploded in popularity over the past few years, with the technology becoming more affordable, more compact and therefore more accessible for sim racers.

In this guide we take you though all the major manufacturer's ecosystems, and what it’s like to actually use the products day to day.

This isn’t about suggesting any one brand over another. It’s purely about arming you with as much info as possible so you can decide what will suit your specific needs and budget best based on direct side by side comparisons of the overall ownership experience.

I have a Moza experience to share as a customer. My dumbass somehow managed to damage the pins inside the wheel QR. I sent them an email explaining my problem and asked for a repair job if possible. In about a week they shipped a replacement pin plate FREE OF CHARGE not a question asked. Only thing they wanted was a proof of wheel purchase and photo of the damage. Really impressed.
  • @LukeVesty
Wow. The entire sim racing community, and those looking to enter, owe you an enormous thank you. Incredible work. I can't even begin to imagine how much time must have gone into this video. When do you even have time to eat and sleep?! πŸ˜‚ Hats off Boosted Media.

For what it's worth, Fanatec experience here to add to the conversation. I've been buying Fanatec gear for over 11 years now. I've owned the original Porsche 911 wheel and shifter, CSW V1, CSW V2, Clubsport Pedals V2, Elite Pedals V1, Elite Pedals V2, Original Formula Wheel, Formula V2 wheel, CSL P1 Wheel, Podium Advanced Module, Podium DD1, Porsche RSR wheel and Clubsport Shifter V1.5. Most of these were ordered individually and I never had any issues with shipping, including this past Black Friday where I picked up the Shifter on sale. Out of all these products the only reliability issue I had was with the motors on the CSW V1. They basically burnt out, as you couldn't really run that wheel base at full power without burning them out. Fanatec shipped me out new motors and instructions to replace at the time. I did replace them and the wheel continues to work to this day, I just can't turn up the power, which is why I bought the Clubsport V2... lol! Other than that, no issues with any of the other products. Hope this may be helpful to someone, as there is quite a bit of doom and gloom out there and for me at least, I've been very pleased with the products, shipping and customer service. Saving up now for the Gran Turismo DD Extreme. 😁 Happy Sim Racing Everyone!

I bought the Asetek La Prima base, La Prima Wheel and now the Forte wheel base and round rim. Could not be happier. Customer service was brilliant. Communication was great. The Asetek community is strong and willing to help with any questions. Can’t wait for their next releases. πŸ”₯πŸ‘
  • Will is becoming like the MKBHD of sim racing - team VRS here and can only say great things. Unbelievably smooth, clean, strong FFB and best bang for buck. Discord community is next level too - had an issue when setting up and had the community solve it for me in 15mins
  • @adambuzzeo
Will, you are unmatched in the space. Thank you for all the time and effort you and your team put in to these videos.
  • @icon0clast274
Perfect Timing. I'm getting ready to upgrade my wheelbase and I've done a lot of research but its nice to see a overview of all of them side by side!
  • @regibson23
Panning across all of the reasonably sized bases and then getting to the gargantuan Logitech was hilarious.
  • Logirich leaked on reddit that the rest of the g pro line will come in october
  • @looneyhoonzinc
I've got an R9 and honestly I'm very happy with it. There are very few cars I use where I want a little more torque but it's been amazing for every title, every car, and every session. I've never had an issue, I've never been unhappy. One thing I do need to say is it takes a few weeks to get the force feedback tuned to your specific desires but when it is, it gives me more information than any other base I've tried and I've been through a ton of thrustmaster gear, quite a bit of Logitech's stuff, and a I've tried fanatecs dd but I didn't buy it for myself as I actually wanted to get my wheel rather than wait for it for however long it took to ship. I will say the fanatec was a lot easier to get to feel how I wanted but moza was more than capable of delivering what I needed.
  • @Mancave_Racecar
Purchased a full Invicta setup nearly a year ago now because of watching all of your videos. I’ve had absolutely zero issues and have been extremely happy with my Asetek products. The Invicta base has no issues slinging and powering the GSI Hyper P1. I’m pretty happy with the Asetek ecosystem, I believe they are one of the biggest innovators in the space right now.
  • @Viraniel666
I bought VRS wheelbase and Heusinkveld Sprints last month, based on your reviews (2 months of extended research, videos), absolutely amazing, stunning quality of both products. Coming from R5 bundle this was a massive step up, and its been an amazing journey, the feedback is insane really detailed. Sprints are also next level coming from Moza. Thank you for all the information and overall your feedback in the sim racing community, much appreciated by casual drivers like me that might not have much knowledge without extensive research. Respect.
  • I've recently made the jump to DD with Moza. Nothing but amazing customer support, experience, the whole bit. When I got my items (KS Wheel, R9 Base, SRP Pedals) everything was packaged nicely and looked amazing. The only thing was the sticker pack that is included with the KS Wheel was not with the package. I messaged Moza, within a week, I not only received the sticker pack but an additional one which really helped especially if I made a mistake and had to redo the sticker placement and the original sticker wouldn't fit. As for the driving and software experience, I mainly play iRacing and the feedback I feel from the R9 has been amazing. I've been able to feel more details then ever before and it's helped my driving (especially when catching mistakes lol) the software I find very easy to use and neatly put together. All in all, I've had no complaints from my Moza and plan on expanding my wheel collection soon to add variety.
  • @m.g.9334
i bought a DD+ iβ€˜m so happy with it, never thought the upgrade from my moza r16 would be worth it, but the feedback is so much better
  • The cool thing is how awesome the offerings are. You can see from the comments theres people extremely happy with their setups whethers its Simagic, Simucube, Asetek, Moza etc. having so many competitors in this space is pushing everyone them all to innovate and push the tech forward. What else is great os that there doesnt seem to be the usual tribalism you can find online. I have a full Simagic ecosystem and I love it - but im well aware others have other products and that theyre also having a similarly brilliant experience. Fantastic time to be into this hobby.
  • AWESOME WORK! Thank you so much for everything you do for the sim racing community.
  • @ksazubbie
Yet again an awesome video Will. Patiently waiting for your full review on the Simagic Alpha before I pull the trigger πŸ˜…. Keep up the great work man, you’re kind of the reason I started getting interested in the sim racing world.
