We continue our conversation with Israeli journalist and filmmaker Yuval Abraham, who discusses the award-winning documentary No Other Land that he co-directed with Palestinian activist Basel Adra, about land dispossession in Masafer Yatta in the occupied West Bank. While accepting the audience award for best documentary at the Berlin International Film Festival, also known as the Berlinale, Abraham said Israel was practicing apartheid, a comment for which he later received death threats. "You have German politicians who are not Jewish who labeled me as an antisemite. For what? For calling for a ceasefire? For calling for equality between Israelis and Palestinians? For using the word 'apartheid,' which should be common sense to describe these parallel systems of inequality?" says Abraham, who calls for an end to the "apartheid reality" in Israel and Palestine. "If there is no full political equality and really full freedom to everybody who lives in this land, then there can be no future here. We are going to continue to fight to change this."

This is the disgusting time I witnessed my German minister of culture claim she only applauded the Israeli artist and not the Palestinian artist. I was sickened to the core.

Again, Germany is on the wrong side of history. What a shame

Trying to completely evict a community from their land is a great crime.

Germany has not learned from its fascist history. In fact, it's doubling down on it.

Germany has shown why it was capable of the horrors of WW2

Calling Israel a democracy, is like calling a Brothel a dating service!

Yuval and Basel are an example of not only what is possible but what should be.

Germany is fully struggling with this topic. I am amazed by how immature and unreasonable they have been about what is going on. It is like they are still under the spill of what happened in the past. They are haunted and unable to mature and get out of their foggy heads. I don't know how to explain it, but I am shocked by German's responses--both government and public. Get out of your comfort zone. We live in a different world now. The roles have changed. It is Israel that is now committing Genocide.

Germany: Somehow always finding themselves on the wrong side of history.

Haaretz: "Just this week, two prisoners had their legs amputated due to handcuff injuries, which unfortunately is a routine event," the physician said in the letter. He said inmates are fed through straws, defecate in diapers, and are held constant restraints, which violate medical ethics and the law. Haaretz

God bless this Israeli Jew and protect him and his family from the evil Zionists. Really sad.
  • None of us would just have the attitude of "c'est la vie" about our home being destroyed so we have no moral right to expect it of anyone else. God bless these men. 🙏🕊🇵🇸❤💚💟👁🍉

That is what a normal, unbiased, fair and decent human being acts like. Thank you, Mr Abraham.

This injustice has to stop! All of this evil is done in the name of Zionism. This will stop one day.

I'm in Germany and I keep having moments in which anger and frustration and sadness build up so much that tears start rolling down my face. I will never forgive Germany for the way it's acting right now. From politicians in parliament to joe blow down the street, the ignorance and arrogance of "my fellow Germans" is relentless.

Having been born in Berlin and becoming an immigrant as a child, I am so ashamed of the Mayor of Berlin's comments about the film No Other Land. Support for Israel should not exclude criticism for policies that are harmful to other religious/ethnic peoples. Thank you for making this film. I hope to be able to see it when it comes to North America.
