I upgraded to the Metaquest 3 from my Vive HTC. Was it worth it?

I recently decided to get the MetaQuest 3 to see if it could beat my $3K computer, and I was blown away.

If you want to use steam games, look up "steam link" on the metaquest app inside the headset.

Great video, if I didn't see the view counter I would think this is a video with hundreds of thousands of views! Super underrated
  • Love the review! I've been looking into VR for sim racing, but have been held back by the price and worry about becoming nauseous. Other friends that have older setups just didn't have a framerate that worked well for me standing or walking about. You touched all the bits I was worried about and may be looking into this as a future purchase! thank you!

great video man, definatly a huge leap from the vive, i will add that passthrough mode is also in color and not black and white and looks clearer, thats cool also. :)

Main drawback for me (after getting elite strap) is binocular overlap if you use the glass spacer which you also need to use to prevent your eyes touching the lens when using lens inserts

Inside out and outside in tracking both have their own advantages but even the Valve Index came out in the middle of 2019, which is prettyyyyyy old in the fast evolving world of VR (HTC Vive Pro was like 2021 I think? ). Valve is supposed to release the Index 2 somewhere in the middle of this year so I'll be on the lookout for that especially to play more demanding title. I do agree tho the Metaquest 3 is pretty incredible for the amount of quality hardware that you get for such a low entry price point!

I opted for a third party battery headstrap 8000mah pack and a better strap quality than the official.

I used the HTC Vive (original) with Valve Index Controllers for a long time best experience only downside was being tethered. I have used Quest 2 with wifi streaming and was very freeing. Only downside lots of hoops to go through to use Index Controllers (still the best imo) to work. I still believe Outside in tracking is the best experience. Just need valve to get moving on v2 of the Index
