The last day before a hiatus in storm activity saw severe downpours in the sierra nevada, shasta trinity national forest, as well as lightning in nevada. Rain in the desert often evaporates before reaching the ground, forming virga. This combined with the storms' fast motion creates unique, jagged rain shafts.
