"Desired Over Have" is one method used to solve dosage calculation problems while in nursing school, NCLEX, or on the job. The "Desire Over Have" method is also sometimes referred to as the formula method.

When solving dosage calculations using "Desired Over Have" (the formula method), you divide the desired dose by what you have on hand, and you then multiply by the quantity to find the dose you will administer.

The formula looks like this: Desired/Have x Quantity = Dose Given
