I don't regret seeing The Last Airbender in theaters on opening night, because it gave me one of my favorite anecdotes. The moment the end credits started rolling, just as people were about to rise from their seats, some guy in the front row bellowed "That was SHIT!" and hurled his 3D glasses at the screen before storming out. The theater erupted in approval for the man who spoke for us all.

I saw The Last Airbender at the midnight showing opening night. About half-way through the film someone stood up and yelled "It's pronounced Aang!" and left the theater. The crowd ended up spending the rest of the film heckling it. Once again, this was opening night.

I just watched Speed Racer. You undersold it. It is now on my list of practically perfect movies, along with the Princess Bride, Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan and Spaceballs.
  • Nobody gives M. Night enough respect. He created the greatest psychological horror movie of all time, breaking and scarring audiences, and disguised it as a Nickelodeon adaptation.
  • Shyamalan’s Avatar is the movie that taught me that movies could be bad. I remember seeing it in theaters when I was nine. I was a HUGE fan of the show and excited beyond belief for the film. I saw it opening weekend, at a time when my family rarely saw movies in theaters. Afterword, I was just… confused. These were supposedly the characters I loved, the story I knew so well, but they had been warped into something wrong and soulless. Like a serial killer wearing the skin of a loved one. I’ll never forget it.

William DeFoe was perfect casting for Ryuk. That's the one thing I liked about that Death Note Adaptation

I am so glad someone is giving the Speed Racer movie the respect it deserves. My parents got us the speed racer video game (based on the movie) because it was cheaper than mario kart and they thought we wouldn't care. It instantly made me a fan of the film, despite not even knowing it was based on an anime until I was a teenager.
  • The loss of innocence comment was painfully accurate for me. I was in Middle-School when The Last Airbender came out. My dad had never watched the show, and before I was able to get him to enjoy some Ghibli films and Attack on Titan over the last few years would never go out of his way to watch animation outside of my presence. He did know however, how much I liked the show and was excited to see the movie. Before that point, I hadn't really developed taste in media. I just really enjoyed movies and TV shows. So he took me out to see the movie in the theatre, and oh my god my world was never the same. I absolutely hated it, but I didn't want to tell my dad such because that was the activity that we spent one of his agreed upon with my mom days to be with me. Years later, I was roasting the shit out of the movie with my cousin when visiting for Christmas, and his response was "Oh thank god. I couldn't believe you actually enjoyed that tire fire of a movie." I still have to try to get him to watch the actual show some day.
  • The saddest part of Speed Racer bombing for me is that in a hypothetical sequel the Wachowskis could have brought the best antagonists: The Evil Acrobatic Team. That would've been so awesome.
  • The best things we got out of this were Speed Racer and Battle Angel. Fun fact the actor that played King Piccolo researched for his role and drove the makeup artists nuts about changing the character’s skin color from purple to green and said dedication got him the role as Beerus in the Super series.

It's not mentioned, but I think Pacific Rim's an unofficial contender. I remember thinking "this is the closest to a good live action anime we're gonna get!" my first time watching it.
  • My family loved AtLA so much we entered and won tickets to a pre-screening of Shyamalan's monstrosity. Imagine being a middle schooler, winning a contest, and going to a fancy theater to face that level of disappointment. Needless to say, we have never watched it again

I saw 'The Last Airbender' on opening night in 2010. One thing I clearly remember about that night--besides being confused and disappointed--is that there was a girl in the audience cosplaying as one of the warriors of Kiyoshi, and she had clearly put a lot of time and effort into the costume; I felt sorry for her because Shyamalan completely purged them from the story.

When The Last Airbender came out, my father was going to take us to see it. He didn't, because me and my siblings got into a fight about something or other. In retrospect, he really rewarded us for that fight lmao.

"You came here for negativity" No I didn't. I saw Alita in the thumbnail, and I think it didn't get enough attention. I still hold out hope that it'll get a sequel, and show it to anyone I know that likes anime or great female leads.
  • I am so happy that people are finally starting to realize how beast mode Speed Racer is. They took all the weird and wacky stuff from the anime and actually made it work in a live action movie. Much like Jeff mentioned they took a boy and his monkey sidekick and actually made it not only work but one of the funniest parts of the movie. I stand by Speed Racer being the best anime adaption.

In hindsight Speed racer bombing is a tragedy. They tried something so out of the box and true to the anime style in live action it scared any studio from ever trying it again. It's a massive swing and nothing looks anything close to it (apart from Scott Pilgrim) and thats a crying shame! And Alita was so good

Me and my brother saw Speed Racer in the cinema. My GOD! Our minds were blown! We saw what they were going for back then and was super disappointed many people didn't see how awesome this movie truly was. Glad many are starting to see what a gem this movie is.

My mother grew up with the original Speed Racer cartoon, and while I as the child did not want to see it, my mother did. And so we watched it on the big screen. The actions scenes made it worth it.
