The magnificent Hoover Dam which was constructed 80 years ago, still stands strong and serves the US in the fields of irrigation, flood control, and power production. Even during a torrential rainfall you won’t see Hoover dam overflowing like this causing destruction. Welcome to the engineering secrets of Hoover Dam. In this video, you are going to assume the role of Hoover Dam design engineer Mr. John Savage and design and construct a gigantic dam in Arizona’s Colorado River.

Mr. John Savage and all the workers who constructed this masterpiece of engineering which keeps a lot of people alive are legends
  • Right topic + Beautiful animation + Simplified explanation => Real contribution to engineering education. I was lucky enough to see the Hoover Dam. It is awesome !
  • Now Savage had a “ DAM “ plan ! What a masterpiece 🙏🏾

I grew up in Henderson, Nv. so close to Hoover Dam--I have seen the movie on making the actual dam as well as the engineering behind it--TOTALLY YEARS BEFORE ITS TIME!! So amazing!!! I have taken many tours down into the dam--our neighbor escorted tours on the weekends!!! I was is awe of it as a little child and I am still as an adult!!! I am 61 now and have not been to the dam in 33 years. There is no doubt it is a wonder it was ever completed---my grandkids could not believe men actually hung by ropes and no A/C or cell phone were used!! Their Grandpa retired to Boulder City and showed them the dam---they were 4 and 6 and a bit intimidated--as we all should be at this amazing wonder!!! The great men that actually did the manual labor are heros' in my book!!!

Lot of todays "Entrepreneurs" who are on a "Mission to change the world", can learn from Mr.Savage. He truly did change the Nevada desert with his design. Thank you Mr.Savage.

The effort you guy's put in these educational videos, is just amazing

I’ve always been fascinated by how planes fly, rockets are launched, skyscrapers are built and bridges stand. I’ve added dam construction to the list. Great video!
  • The Hoover Dam is considered by many to belong on the LIST of the World's seven greatest feats of modern-day engineering. Savage seems to have thought of every contingency when building this magnificent structure.

Before this the only thing i thought about dams was arch design to equalize pressure. It's so mind blowing how everything was anticipated in the design.
  • I have toured multiple dams across the western half of North America. The engineering that was used to design these structures has always amazed me.
  • Savage truly put forth a great plan, but anyone in construction knows it was the guys on the ground and experts in their own fields that really made this work. Their are so many variables and issues that he alone couldn’t have addressed and were solved by every day blue collar workers
  • As a civil engineer, I can say that every details explained here are all very accurate and beautifully explained.

Incredible engineering. Mr. Savage deserved every penny for his design.
  • Overflow is NOT a problem the dam has now - the water level is so low that power production will soon be impossible.

remember, there were no computers to do calculations. it was all done with knowledge and experience, pencil and paper. the bypass tunnels were a marvel of engineering by themselves. there is a documentary out in this. great video

We never forget these legends who constructed this masterpiece of engineering

This video is a very impressive overview of one of the most amazing Civil Engineering projects of its time. Watching this video made me feel very proud to be a Civil Engineer working in the water industry.
