THE ASSASSIN | Jack Tatum The Hardest Hitter in NFL History

Jack Tatum was one of the most formidable hitters in the NFL, acting as a true Pro Bowl-worthy safety. Tatum terrorized opponents with his punishing blows. His intimidating presence helped transform the Oakland Raiders into one of the most feared teams of his era. Recognized by NFL Films as the sixth hardest hitter in NFL history, Tatum was selected for three Pro Bowls and holds the record for the longest fumble return in NFL history, a feat that was only matched 28 years later.

For many, Tatum's career will only be truly complete when he is included in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. However, many believe that this honor will never be granted to him due to a tragic incident during a preseason game when one of his hits left New England Patriots receiver Darryl Stingley paralyzed from the neck down.

Without a Doubt!! HOF all the way. Grew up watching him when he got to Raiders I '70. Raider games were always on in Vegas in the 60's and 70's. Every Sunday, then Monday too! Big Draw. We all wanted to play like him in Hi School. Always " Stylin" !!!
  • Bronco fan here, who, having to bare the Raider stench to say this: Jack Tatum was a great player and definitely should be in the HOF (with other snubbed Raiders). Thanks.
  • @craiglahey3209
Yes he deserves to be in the HOF. He revolutionized the position in his era
  • Jack Tatum was a "Rover" in college at Ohio St under famed coach Woody Hayes. Rovers back then were combo Safety/Linebackers and so Tatum was part Safety and part Linebacker. R.I.P. Jack
  • I’m glad it was worded correctly, Tatum did nothing wrong when the New England player was paralyzed. Tatum didn’t have to apologize, it was just a crazy play. He should be in the Hall of Fame

TATUM DESERVES TO BE IN THE HALL OF FAME
  • Yes Jack Tataum deserves to inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A true competitor of the Game.
  • My opinion Jack Tatum is one of the Free Safeties to ever play. He impacted games with his play at all levels.

You damn right he should be in The Hall of Fame.He was the hardest hitting player ever.Back in those days Football was great, because you did not had all these ticky tat penalties you have today.Players were great, especially defensive players.Let the assassin in.

As a Broncos fan, I can’t believe he’s not in the HOF. Players like him are what made the NFL great in the 70’s. Guessing 3 pro bowls isn’t enough and his stats aren’t great, but you can’t deny that he’s a legend.
  • I was born & raised in San Francisco and by no means a Raider fan. However Mr. Tatum was as good as it gets and played the game like all played, he was just better at it. He deserves to be in the Hall and it’s a crime that he’s not already enshrined in Canton.. this needs to be corrected.

My Mom is an OSU alum who went to the University when Tatum was there and played for Woody Hayes. She gave me his biography, "They call me Assassin" when I was about 7 years old. I watched Tatum with the Raiders as a kid. He was one of my favorite players. He personified Grit & Toughness like no other. It is a travesty he is not in the HOF, he is one of the best defensive backs of all time.
  • HELL YEAH and Let's Get one thing straight Jack Tatum was the #1 hardest hitter in the NFL and that's know doubt the Assassin 💯☠️☠️☠️🤬💪🔥✊
