How Iran’s Ayatollahs Captured Power | Flashback with Palki Sharma

In 1979, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini returned from 14 years in exile to declare an Islamic Republic in Iran. He had led a nationwide revolution that overthrew the pro-Western Shah of Iran. What happened next was a consolidation of power in the hands of Iran’s Shia clergy. From parliament to president, Khomeini created a system that would give the illusion of accountability yet place ultimate power with him. Today, the supreme leader of Iran is the most powerful man in the country. Only he can declare war and peace in the country. But how was this power structure created? How did the Ayatollahs accumulate power in their hands? Find out on Flashback with Palki Sharma.

So in short Iranians went back to the stone age from 1980s onwards.

Whether Shah or Khomeni, eventually the biggest loss is to the people of Iran.
  • @Passque666
Only if Shah of Iran wasn’t as brutal, maybe this Islamist revolution would’ve never happened. Many Shah’s dissidents only wanted democracy, and not an Islamist theocracy.

Thanks so much for this. Clearly that so many kids nowadays have no idea about what Iran is, let alone how it became Iran nowadays 😅 98.2% voted "yes" for an islamic republic initially. Well, apparently this regime built itself upon ignorance. Although many of them certainly regretted afterwards, and never given a 2nd chance. In contrast with countless human rights atrocities, Israel is certainly much better as a modern democratic state. May Iran be freed, and turn the region into normality again!
  • The style of governance in Iran is much more progressive than the West. Creating a negative image of Iran has been one of the goals of the West and America, but this system is moving forward with power because it was formed based on the people's vote. Among the Arabs, there are not even elections, but the West supports them, is there no question?
