The irony of a video about story telling and the editor cuts him off before it's finished.
  • These are seven brilliant points mentioned by Josh Cambell in the talk: 1. Don't let the preparation get in the way of a good story 2. You need not be funny 3. Don't let someone with no name determine your story 4. Make peace with your story 5. Start at the beginning; End at the ending 6. Don't go into too many details 7. Don't offend anyone

I wasn't too sure of how I felt about this dude at first, but he blew my mind at the end.

I believe storytelling to be more important than ever and that a well told story can act as an empathy engine!
  • This is a really good way of thinking. Storytelling is a way of expressing a single moment, a series of events or feelings that came alive worthy of impacting others. I hope I can apply these in my storytelling YouTube channel too.

I’ve been so enthralled by so many TEDTalks, it’s ironic that the guy talking about storytelling is the guy I can’t stay interested watching.

The key to a good story telling is not how to tell a good story, but how to avoid telling a bad story: 1. Be prepared but not too prepared. 2. You don’t have to be funny, because you are not. 3. Name names. If you can't use someone's name, they have power over your story. Don’t let someone with no name determine your story for you. 4. It is not a therapy session, then your audience won't be able to. It is not the audience' job to give you closure. You don’t want your audience to feel sympathy for you, you want them to feel empathy. If they feel sorry for you, they are thinking about you and your well being and not your story. Make peace with your story before you get on that stage. 5. Start from the beginning and end at the end. You have to trust your audience that they will get the lesson that you want them to get, or they will get the lesson they want to get. Don't rob them of that by telling the moral of the story. 6. The details are boring. Trust your audience. You are sharing human experiences and they will connect to you so skip the boring details. 7. The audience is on your side, keep them there. Don't make a controversial statement unless you have to. Don't offend you audience. Most IMPORTANT key: Sometimes details are important. Sometimes morals are necessary. Sometimes you have to offend your audience to make them listen. I can't tell you what your story is, and I can't tell you how to tell it. The only way you can do is with practice, go find a mic, get in front of an audience and find your voice. Be the hero of your own story, be the protagonist of your own story.

I love how a Storytelling TEDTalk video suddenly ended mid way
  • @findlestick
He said to avoid starting with a joke, because you lose the audience if the joke bombs. But he started this talk with a joke that bombed. 🤯
  • @RealRitesh
The abrupt ending was good 😂😂😂😂
  • @Joshuacowley
I really liked that twist ending. Seriously did not see that coming. Wish I had been watching the red bar at the bottom of the screen.

This is a great presentation. I would say that Good storytelling is a combination of various elements, but three key components contribute significantly to a compelling narrative: 1. Engaging Characters, 2. Strong Plot Structure and 3. Compelling Theme and Message. You must pay attention to them if you want to create a good story.
