  • This is THE lens to get. I have a R5 and it is my lens to go most of the time. I have a EF 500 F4, a Tamron 150-600 and the RF 100-400 is most of the time my lens to go. If you add an extension tube it is almost as good as my EF 100 macro IS II. It is so good, fast, light and responsive, it is a must in a bag or to go in a daily basis. I shoot birds and insects. I just love this lens. I have been using it for over 2 years, no issues.

I own this one. It’s quite good for what humans can pay. But the 35mm f1.8 is still the one that stays most time on my R6. Thanks for the video!
  • @tomm7910
I completely agree about this lens. It's a bargain at the price that it is but when Cannon sells it refurbished for sub $400 I can't think of anything else that comes close

I've been using this on my r50 for a couple weeks now. I know that bokeh is all the rage, but I love the compression i can get with this lens, capturing multiple layers of activity and movement and shape and texture when shooting in an urban setting. It has been a great lens so far.

Just added this 100-400mm lens to my meager arsenal. I usually can't wake up early enough to beat the sun and I try to get back home before rush hour so having enough light shouldn't be an issue. I needed something with a little more reach to get the birdies. I'm worried if I get an 800mm it'll be too situational. I like flexibility. I have a 14mm that is situational and spends most of its time in my bag until the clouds cooperate and the Milky Way shows up.

I have the r50 and this lens too! Its so nice on bright sunny days but now that its winter I am struggling a bit more with the overcast dreary days and noise. But, for the price point and how light weight it is, I think it is the best you can get.
  • @serbuuu
I was thinking of buying that exact setup r50 + rf 100-400mm and magically this video comes up..
  • @paullanoue5228
Most of the wildlife photographers I’ve seen have spoken highly of the RF 100 - 400mm lens. The images I’ve seen look fine. I use the RF 100-500 most of the time and I considering buying a RF 100-400 for good weather days when I just want a light weight alternative or to use on a second body.
  • @saxon1177
I have one and I don't even use it for the fact that when you start zooming in the f/5.6 quickly changes to f/8, which does not give you that nice, soft/blurred bg that you want when shooting birds. If you don't care about that then buy it, it's great for everything else mentioned.
  • Definitely my next lens purchase. Unless I win the lottery, then I'll get the 100-500, and one of these 😆
  • @sknemani
how is the autofocus in video. Especially subject detection, eye detection on people using this lens. I understand that's not the common use case for this lens. Well, I just want to know as I have a very specific requirement and this lens just might meet it if its auto focus in video mode is reliable.
  • @karunthapa354
im planning on buy a second hand canon eos m as my first camera {mainly cuz most of the magic lantern videos are based around that camera model} could you please help me to know what all i should check in the camera before making the purchase, i will be meeting the seller and checking the camera in person
  • @haak737
R50 can handle high iso well. I am surprised how clean even 6400 iso is. The combo with this 100-400 f5.6-8 are excellent for traveling
  • @kylelowe
my brother has this lens and it's great!
  • @olafgraf73
Do you have a good grip with the small handle and the large lens? Or is it very bad?
