My last video showed the door popping open in flight. It actually happened 3 times and stranded us in Saint Louis for four days. Check out all three door failures and see the fix that got us home!

Great job Kay and also good job to Max for taking the time and effort to get to the root cause of the problem. Ground personnel and mechanics are essential to safe flying!

Wow - all I know is if I'm aboard an aircraft with a door pop incident I want Kay to be the pilot - cool, calm, collected and navigating, aviating and communicating. Hopefully this is sorted and your aircraft exhibits no further issues with the door.
  • I sure felt that the previous owner also had trouble with that door. Everyone stayed calm and you flew the plane. Great job.

Pops did a fantastic job staying calm and quiet, and letting you do what you do best. You stayed focused and calm and got the plane down like it was just an other landing. Great work by both of you!
  • @ChuckBaker
As always, you did a great job flying the plane. Glad you finally got the door taken care of.

This was impressive. Nice, quiet sterile cockpit during the incident and busy return to the field!

"Time To Spare, Go By Air". This Idiom started during the golden age of air travel. Non-pilots see it as a pain in the tush, but the entire experience rewarded your professionalism, patience and matter of fact attitude Kay. Large life lessons like this are so valuable and you took it in stride. The most dramatic example of this occurred when Neal Armstrong was hovering above the moon on manual control and heard "Neal 30 seconds of fuel left!" "Roger." You Kay have the right stuff! 👍👍

One of the things I have noticed about the door fiasco is that every time it popped out, after a very brief moment of being startled, your instinct was to aviate. You attention was not on door but on flying the airplane. Speaks volumes about you and your skills. Being 78 years old, we didn't actually have these recurring problems like this. We took the airplane in and they fixed it. That is total BS from that maintenance facility. But that's the kinda help you get these days. I would bill them for aircraft flight time and fuel. Please hold them accountable for that fiasco. I guess the $1000 question is, why didn't that mechanic take it apart and determine what the problem was and fix it the first time? That is very fustrating to see that level of incompetence at a repair facility. I don't care how old the guy sounded. No excuse for that.

What Pops said when the door popped opened for the 3rd time (muted of course), I said the exact words to myself. Right there with ya!

As a St. Louis citizen I can understand being stuck in Downtown STL for 4 days IS terrible. Glad you got out with your life!!

It is also nice to hear the field offering assistance even though you had not declared an emergency.
  • @amydoodle4659
Love it when you and “Pops” fly together! So glad you got a fix on the door! I know that was frustrating!!
  • Thank you for letting us hear the engines on take off. Twins sound amazing
  • @jimschnurr3512
You are getting better with each flight with increased confidence but please always never over confident..
  • @rafaucett
It was nice to see your adventures with the door. I'm sure it was frustrating but you and dad seemed to take it all in stride. Thanks for the video! Cheers! Bob F.

You would think they would take the whole door apart after the second failure, if not the FIRST. I'm thinking that whoever rigged that with the wrong parts owes you big time.
  • @nascarrd
Good Afternoon. Love your vides and I'm sorry you and Pop's got stuck in St. Louis. I live 15 min away from that airport and would have loved to mee you and Pop's. I'm so glad they were able to get you fixed and back home safely. I am so impressed with the way you both handled the door opening. You both was cool as could be, I will be flying commercially to Corpus Christi next Wednesday I hope that no doors pop open. haha. Love your videos and have learned so much watching them. Safe Travels. Bob
