Best swimming performance of all time? 400m IM, the most challenging race you can do. Swam by the best swimmer of all time. One of his best disciplines. At his absolute peak. Completely dominant.

This is the only swimming WR to survive since the 2008 Olympics. The LZR Speedo suit resulted in most of them being obliterated in 2009 and now with 11 more seasons there since 2008 many of those records have also been broken but this one remains. That's how great a swim this was. This was probably the greatest single swim in history and he of course was the greatest swimmer in history.

Fun fact , this was the race that his coach Bob Bowman said that Phelps told him before the games that he kept having a dream were he was swimming , and when he looked up at the clock and it had 3:07 on it , and Bob told him that it was probably his 350 split in the 400im if he wanted to go 4:03 , he said that the hairs on his neck stood up when he saw 3:07 flat at the 350 turn, lol great video.

Just saw the 400 IM final for the Tokyo Olympics.. the time Phelps swam here would have won it by 6 seconds 😳 That’s nuts !

That 100 fr finish was INSANE. To have that much still in the tank... wow. It’s the biggest difference between Phelps 2008 and Lochte 2012.

5:49 to time that move, whilst getting a blood rush to the head, but not losing your bearings, not using a nose blocker but most importantly for him kicking off that wall the hardest & the strongest possible, then doing 100m of breaststroke, & then a 100m of freestyle, but the type of freestyle where youre just breathing from the right & burying your head back in the water. Damn Underrated & one of the most challenging sports, if not the most challenging i know
