RATE MY CIRCUIT - first flight after 5 months in a Piper PA28 Cherokee at London Oxford Airport

Published 2020-06-16
I'm hiding behind my keyboard but please rate my first circuit after 5 months! This is also my first time at a new base, London Oxford Airport. They fly the circuit on the QNH at 1,500 feet.

It wasn't pretty but please leave a comment of what I could have done better.

Very pleased to see you back in the air Adam. 5 months is a long time to be out of the air, you had new aircraft and a new airfield to contend with. Looked fine to me and 5 landings in a sortie is good going. Thanks a lot for the shout out and we will try to arrange a meet up at some point this summer!

Awesome stuff! Glad to see you back in the skies!

Looked fine to me, must be great to be back in the air. Saw BG for sale a little while back while I was looking for something to fly so I can get airborne again. Keep the video coming they much appreciated Malcolm

Very very jealous haha! Although I'm only just past the 3 month mark since my last aerial venture. It still hurts - a lot! Brave to post a video after being out of practice, a lot of respect from me for that. I'm getting worried about skill fade too. Hopefully we'll both be back on our A-game soon. Many thanks for this little taste of being back in the air :)

New plane also? I can’t wait to go up especially at this time of year. Thanks for sharing Adam.
  • Great dude! Barely any spillage of the Prosecco in the back there - ha. Thought your commentary was really good 👍

Good work Adam, after 5 months you can’t complain, I did the same a couple of weeks ago at Oxford to regain my currency - brilliant runway
  • @danielperkin
Wasn’t that bad Adam 👍 I’m always mindful of little or nil wind because the rate of descent on final is higher and I guess the high circuit height didn’t help. When I went up last month for the first time since March I did some stalls and general handling first to get familiar with the aircraft again (and to relax!) before feeling ready to attempt some circuits at the end of the flight. Thanks for sharing! Happy flying from Oxford ✈️

Lovely video Adam! Was cool to see Tim got a shout out 😃 have you ever thought of doing a collaborative video together? Really enjoyed today’s video! Love the use of different angles and the commentary was great 😊.
  • @Rosspilot
At 3:30 you said you were " turning base now and climbing to 1,400 ft". You were actually on crosswind.
  • @flyingkub
Brave man asking for comments!! I can not say anthing negative as I do most of them myself :-) Just one point, don't panic about busting the MATZ it is just an area of high military activity and being just in or just out is not a deadly sin, it is not class D better to fly the aircraft than panic about the Nav (remember Aviate, Navigate, Communicate).
  • After 5 months, that’s seemed pretty good!!! I see a lot of people holding on the runway with the parking break, I was always taught to hold it on the toes, anyone else do this???
  • Great video and I look forward to seeing more! Very ballsy opening yourself up to criticism but that's the best way to learn. This might have already been said but it seems you were quite wide on downwind, which reduces your chances of gliding back to the runway in case of an engine failure. Also, am I right in saying that you need to request start up at Oxford after listening to the ATIS? It's been a while so it could have changed...

Great Video Mate, Pretty good circuit more so since you haven’t been flying for 5 months
