There is nothing more moving than this speech. The United States was not involved, the USSR was supporting Germany. All of Europe was against the UK. Still, Winston Churchill, a man of the past, a man who will soon be displaced, stood alone and firm against the Nazis. He was one of the very few who suffered the distinction of being right. Truly, he was The Great Man.

Winston Churchill The man who mobilised the English language and sent it into battle

Great Britain stood alone against overwhelming odds. On her own she put a halt to operation Sea Lion! She retained mastery of the air against vastly superior numbers. How critical this victory was is often underestimated... Had she fallen, the process of liberating Great Britain along with the rest of Europe would have come at the loss of uncountable additional lives... She gave the world a sense of pride and optimism that this war was indeed winnable! God bless Great Britain! I'm an American.

I been in England from Canada for 4 days For combat trainning I sat in a south London Pub getting to know a few of the lads And how the English worked Really I was enjoying myself in a new land even with the dark gloom of war coming..And then it happen The radio was turned up and you could hear a pin drop out from the jokes and chat filling the room.. There was Winston ..right to the point If i had any idea of losses And if we were going over seas or having to defend England Here was the Answer After the speech chat was low If at all. Someone in the background broke out with God save the King And one after another stood up with a pint and roared out the song Followed by laugher and jokes I had a fill of English stiff upper lip And how they would "carry on" - Lance Bombardier Orval Villemere Canadian Army My grandfather

At my age of 71 years, after reading hundreds of history books, still the greatest man I ever heard tell of. Possibly also the greatest writer of any age in English.

Winston Churchill spoke the truth will courage and facts. He endured ridicule among his peers when he spoke the possible future events that could occur because of the present reality. He saw evil and confronted it. Integrity, courage, truth, and compassion were his trademarks. I hope that the next generation produces those of similar ilk.
