The Little Owl is one of the cutest birds you’ll ever see. And right now, it’s critically endangered due to intensive land use and habitat destruction. In many regions, it has already gone extinct. We partnered with two rewilding pioneers who have found a way to bring them back - with the power of innovation and a plan that started 30 years ago.

  • I wonder how people managed to forget that each specie has an important function! Owls are nature's pest control, helping out farmers by keeping rodent populations in check. Having them around is a great deal for the whole ecosystem. Hope this video will be a reminder for people and a motivation boost to take more care of nature around us!

Little Owls are very deserving of respect and consideration as all life is precious on this old planet.

This made me cry because as a young person I always hear about the degrading environment and more extinction of animals. I gave up on our future. I just took it as "It is what it is" but after watching this I realized how cruel that mindset is. Those little owls, they are so beautiful so full of life and you guys made it possible. Thank you so much. When I grow up I might find communities like this around my own country.

I watched 2 of your videos and just joined a membership. The news seems to be an unending stream of stories of cruelty and greed of humanity - you folks give me hope it's not too late. I can rest a little easier tonight knowing I'm helping, even if it's only a tiny amount. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU ARE DOING.
  • About 35 years ago, my mother woke me up saying she had found an owl by the side of the road, it was tiny and we thought it was a baby, it was still alive and I spent the rest of the day with a hot water bottle on my stomach with the owl wrapped in a blanket waiting for the RSPCA to pick it up. We eventually found out it was a little owl, and another one had also been found close by, both survived and were released back to the wild.

I am by no means a tree-hugger, but thank goodness for people, and groups, like this. When our ecosystems are destroyed, eventually WE will follow suit. These owls are adorable!

We need to save the Kautz😭 I had 2 on my arm when i was younger as we knew someone who bred these for release. Its quite nice knowing that people are making an effort

I think I can remember holding a little owl years ago, it was the most amazing experience, such adorable little things they are.
  • Little Owl is the cutest name of an animal along with Puffin.

It's very interesting to see that German people describe nerdy people as "Kauzik", because in Russian-speaking countries we also have a saying about nerdy people "Сидеть за компьютером как сыч", which one can roughly translate into English as "To sit at your computer like a Little Owl" Funny how a lot of people from different countries collectively decided that this bird is basically an epitome of nerdiness for some reason, lol.

How could you not want to save these little featherballs!? Literally was melting inside when I saw the little owl and you labeled him "Smol" 🤣❤️‍🔥 That's his name now. Smol. 👌💯🔥

I am from the Caribbean I enjoyed watching what you are doing to help these beautiful animals I've always loved animals and I wish I could be there to help. Thank God for people like you. Love from Trinidad and Tobago, Claire

This video just showed up in my feed. I am an older female American who has always loved owls. Your 30 years of dedicated work to save these adorable and IMPORTANT little owls gives me some faith in humanity, or at least some of humanity. I am spending my remaining money and years on feeding my backyard birds and squirrels, supporting bird and wildlife conservation efforts, supporting exotic bird sanctuaries in Canada and the U.S. (because these intelligent birds should have never been taken from the wild, but here we are with a crisis of abused and abandoned “pets”), and financially helping individuals who are struggling to keep the birds they care for healthy and happy. You are doing so much in Germany. The strength and commitment of our youth is what we need to save species like the little owl and their ecosystems. Thank you.

We had a pair that nested in a pile of old logs in our garden a couple of years ago in Suffolk England. You'd walk past and see four little cute faces looking out. Just beautiful creatures and we felt blessed to have had that. I'm guessing there's been too much ecological destruction perpetrated by the local council to see them again. They even built a long road over a huge area of amphibian habitat, much to locals dismay and objections. Our leaders are corrupt beyond comprehension. Next they plan a local garbage incinerator despite concerns by locals about the proximity to over a dozen schools including nurseries.

This video is so wholesome! Little owls' eyes are cute and intense. The presenter's energy and enthusiasm is great
