I get why people were wishing for even more content after that long but this is frame by frame animated. from paper to digital, it’s an incredibly long process and something to seriously appreciate. That kind of dedication to art is a rare find. Quality not Quantity

this is probably the one scenario where "they worked hard!" is a valid defense. looking at the genuinely absurd level of detail in every single boss here and knowing how taxing the studio's animation process is, both the long development time AND the amount of content here are completely justified (esp at an $8 pricepoint). no one is against more cuphead but i think it's more valuable that they avoided overworking their team/sacrificing quality for an earlier release date. for something styled as uniquely as Cuphead, i think quantity/release window expectations should be tapered a bit.

Cuphead itself took 10+ years I believe, and it looks stunning. But this taking around 4-5 years and it's style is more improved plus even MORE fluent?.... I think $8 is a low price for the amount of work, but don't get me wrong it's definitely fine for it only being 1-2 hours long with a shorter story. Still, definitely gave fans what we wanted in a DLC, and I hope the animators fingers rest well because I can only imagine how sore they are from hand drawing each frame lol

To be fair, the bosses are considerably easier when you're using a weapon that auto aims while also dealing respectable damage. Means you can just focus on dodging. The crack shot lives up to its name.
  • You gotta love it when the sad game journalists complain that they couldn’t beat the tutorial, while Charlie is out here setting record times for himself for Cuphead.
  • Nobody's talking about how incredible these boss fights are. They look so fun and have definetely lived up to the game's standards

charlie saying "I earned that win" and immediately dying is extremely on brand

The animation of this game is just top fucking tier man, everything looks so good, no wonder it took so long. The two bros behind this studio are seriously creative geniuses and this game really captures the nostalgia that old cartoons bring. I can't wait for whatever MDHR releases next.
  • The reason it takes so long to make is because every frame is hand drawn. It takes a while but it’s a level of dedication that you don’t see much nowadays, and I for one appreciate it! Edit: also for eight bucks it’s a STEAL

Holy shit my three collective brain cells just came together to realize “Delicious last course” stands for “DLC”.
  • My god, I can't stop staring at this animation. This is beyond classic cartoons, this is Thief and the Cobbler eye candy. I think our expectations have been ruined by massive game publishers crunching their developers. We need to have a greater appreciation for the amount of time it takes for a small team to put out something this high-quality.

I'm just glad it's finally OUT! It's just icing on the cupcake that I get to watch Charlie play it.

“I might just complete it tonight” every time this man says these words you already know he has all 7 chaos emeralds

One of my favorite tropes in cartoons is characters randomly pulling out an absurdly large item out of thin air. It's absolutely hilarious to me, and I'm glad that they made reference to that with the ice wizard fight. That's brilliant.
  • It's so fun to watch someone else play it because you can actually watch all the animation going on. Truly a beautiful game, very well-played by Charlie.
  • @kvxtthe
Man, the last boss is SO FUCKING COOL visually. They outdone themselves.
  • @DULCETDELIRIUM
I don't know why, but something about the saltbakers animations are MUCH smoother than the other bosses, and that's something you can notice that is yearworthy. Atleast it didn't take 6 years for one boss then like.. another 12 just for another, truly they've outdone themselves with this DLC
  • Love the video, Charlie, but I disagree about the game being too short. For a DLC to have 7 bosses, 5 mini bosses and a whole new playable character all in hand drawn animation is way more than I could have ever imagined.
