So, the Raider X rear rotor is called a pusher. It faces back and gives additional forward thrust. It isn't facing sideways like normal helicopters to provide rotation, because the dual counter-rotating rotors do that.
  • @numberyellow
While helos with contra-rotating main rotors LOOK weird, they fly just like "normal" configuration. the contra-rotating main rotors eliminate the need for a traditional tailfan. a good example of a currently in-service helo using this configuration is the Kamov Ka-50.

The Army just announced cancellation of both projects. The stingers have filled the roll of the OH 58Ds. We had the stingers and the longbows with us in Tal Afar/Mosul.

The Invictus is like a futuristic version the old Bell AH-1 Cobra.
  • @Claygalvin
As far as I was aware, not that that means much... the Comanche was canned due to expense and because by the time it was ready for production a lot of the technology was obsolete. The lessons learned and tech improvements developed were applied to later model Apaches and other newer airframes. I believe UAV technology was really taking off around the same time too.

the ducted tail rotor gives more thrust plus protects the rotor from striking something

Really comes down to UH Utility vs. AH Attack. Army will probably acquire two or three for different mission sets.
  • That part about flying between buildings is a little sketchy. There are few things as unsettling as watching a Blackhawk whacked right in front of you because they were coming in high and slow over the other team's ville. I did not see any periscopes like the 58 or Longbow, which means the whole airframe needs to be exposed instead of peaking over stuff. The Longbow can be so quiet that thing can walk right up behind you and you won't hear it until it's way too late.

Does the Bell 360 Invictus or the Compound Apache come with seats on the outside in case Royal Marines have to do another rescue mission?

The S97 body remind me of a Mitchell B25 bomber.❤

That fanned tail rotor is called a fenestron. Its currently used on some airbus helis.
  • @trevynlane8094
The big problem with a scout helicopter is that it has to hit almost as hard as an apache while being as cheap as a reaper drone
  • I always enjoy your content buddy!I am a Navy vet from 1988!I was on the USS SARATOGA CV-60!The F-14 Tom Cat was the best fighter at that time!Keep uploading good stuff!
  • @jatisasmita4813
Inside tail rotor called Fenestron that more quiet than traditional rotor. To reducing heat signature from engine and exhaust The Comanche doesn't have open exhaust behind the engine but use unique engine exhaust system which ducted the exhaust into the tailcone where it was mixed with cool ambient air from fenestron before it exited the aircraft

A next generation helicopter just choked on Mars. Dollars to donuts, they will also carry the Switchblade loitering missiles.
  • The defiant has already lost to the valor and the raider x could easily lose to the Invictus. If this happens I really hope our military finds a place for the defiant/raider platform. This platform has room to grow for years to come. If not, maybe one of our Nato allies will purchase the platform. It has performed so good in testing and I'm afraid it could be shelved just like the Comanche. I would hate to see another great design just hanging in a museum somewhere.

You should do some more Fat Electrician videos.

Two things - The first - the FARA program is not a successor to the AH-64/AH-1, i.e. attack helicopters, but a program intended to provide the US armed forces with new RECONNAISSANCE helicopters. Second - the program has been canceled and there will be neither Raider nor Invictus.
