The Yamaha Montage M Series of synthesizers offers three next-gen keyboards that massively elevate sound quality and selection, live-performance control and workflow. The flagship trio is astutely tailored to the needs of specific players, and includes the Montage M6 for synth aces, Montage M7 for keyboardists and Montage M8x for pianists.

The abundant upgrades incorporated into the Yamaha Montage M Series are demonstrated by Nicholas Semrad, a Grammy-nominated keyboardist and sound designer whose performance needs span between stage and studio. Semrad choose the Montage M8x to play through all of the unique features of the series—including the polyphonic aftertouch that’s only offered on the M8x—as well as share his favorite sounds, the depth of programming and the fluid controls and workflow that make music creation easy and fun.

At the heart of the Yamaha Montage M Series keyboards are three sound engines that serve up a diverse assortment of moods, feels and atmospheres for virtually any style of music. Your artistic journey can begin by calling up authentic instruments via the improved AWM2 sample-based engine, analog synths from the new AN-X Virtual Analog engine, and 8-operator FM-X synthesis, or simply dig into the expanded, preset wave library.

“Yamaha increased the amount of elements from eight to 128 for the Montage M, so your programs can be so much deeper in terms of the amount of options you have and the amount of things you can play at one time,” says Semrad. “Furthermore, the increased polyphony on the Montage M Series boards lets you have these very complex sounds with a bunch of different parts happening. No gig is going to be too big for you.”

Other enhancements include new and enriched expressive controls (updated ribbon, hold button and more), improved navigation and quicker screen response, USB MIDI and audio interfaces and more. The Montage M Series even sweat the “small” details to ensure that wherever you perform, you won’t face moments where you can’t comfortably and quickly get to what you need.

“I can’t tell you the number of gigs I’ve done where it’s pitch black on stage,” says Semrad. “But the Montage M boards have a really great, very visible screen at the top, and that thing is going to save my life—and hopefully yours, as well—in those scenarios. Also, everything on here loads fast and the programming screens are very response—all of which make using this board a way more simple and easy experience, so you don’t get detached from the creative process.”

Nicholas is One of my top 3 keybordist for synth based parts... He is so talented and his playing ultra musical. If you add that he knows very well how to use and edit a synth, then the package is phenomenal~

I would have liked the polyphonic aftertouch on the m6 or m7 synth style keybed.

Thanks for this awesome intro Nick Semrad; Thanks GC for getting him to do it. I’m impressed by the Montage M8X. Bravo Yamaha. You are listening and creating what we need. With the promise of a vsti version, The Montage M is very close to what I’ve wanted in a hardware workstation for a while. There is a lot to like here. A LOT! A few downsides I see are 1) the possible learning curve for those new to montage/modx workflow and 2) the limited physical outputs. The included 32x6 audio interface is great but only having 4 hardware outputs to route to somewhat limits the possibilities. I wish Yamaha would have went with the input/output options similar to Roland’s current Fantom. 6 assignable outputs plus cv gate outs is VERY handy for those who are blending hardware and software in live performance. Routing separate outputs is huge for FOH & monitor mixing.

  • @jas_bataille
So they doubles the polyphony and added up to 128 elements? Basically they made this custom based on the basic requirements of Jacob Collier. Nice!

What incredible sound mixes, sound design and a great presentation of the synth - THANK YOU very much!!🤩👍👍👍
  • I Love Yamaha and you play wonderful , I like the one key press and increase the sound ,, and analog.that has been added ,,for more 1980's sounds ,, and guitar centers them folks are amazing ,
  • This workstation is so sensibly designed super user friendly and easy to use. Best part is it has lots of controller and that can be super useful for live and production work. Some people prefer to use touch screen and some prefer buttons it has both. Montage is already established and this one is perfect upgradable keyboard with minimal price increases and bunch of new sounds and unmatched control facilities. Love the ANX synth it sounds so fantastic. Overall it’s much better product then existing Montage and currently no other workstation can match to new Montage M series. Only thing I felt little bad that no polyphonic after touch on the 6/7 so surprised because now days musicians prefer portable products so obviously more selling keyboards are 6 & 7. I have a one question see if you know and you can answer me. My question is can II used Montage’s user sounds on this? Because this keyboard is way ahead than Montage so there must be so many changes in parameters and there are so many Montage users in the market and they can asked this questions. Nice demo…Love the keyboard. All the best to Yamaha and all the dealers for better business. Thank you 🙏 ❤
