I cleaned mine by removing it and fitting a straight piece of pipe. No more DPF issues and very happy with it. Also blocked off the EGR valve. Of course got an engine light so I removed the lamp. All good now.

dpf´s are great , saves all the nasty stuff from going into the enviorment ........to then dump it into the enviorment at a later date along with 4litres of nasty chemicals .

Well done mister, nice delivery, your a natural & good to see people having a go at stuff.

The company I work for has just had a Ford Courier van's DPF cleaned after the van went into limp, mainly due to it being used for short journeys. The mechanic told me that a regen involves over-supplying diesel, some of which washes down the bores, contaminating the engine oil. The oil level might even rise! He recommends much more regular oil changes, because of this. I like the idea (from another comment) of opening the DPF chamber, throwing away the contents and welding it back up!

You are totally correct Mel all that “on the car cleaning” is cobblers , rarely will it clean properly . I clean DPF’s in a £30k cabinet machine from cars to lorry’s .again you are correct firstly you must clean against the flow of gasses a pressure washer can be used to help as like you have done. Good video Mel helping those that might want to have a go themselves 👍

I lost over £4000 on two cars because of the dpf's. In a few years time there will be adverts saying "did you own a car with a dpf fitted?", and the government will have to pay out millions of pounds for forcing car manufacturers to fit something not fit for purpose! Dpf's totally destroyed the biggest attribute of the diesel engine... Reliability! Shocking! 😠

Cleaned mine with the same fluid about 2 months ago, back flushed when rinsin aswell maybe 20-30 times also used air pressure which help blow out some of the red ash at the end and alot of the water. Worked for me lowered my dpf pressure from 250mbar at 3k rpm to 50mbar at the same revs. I also used the same chemical as brick acid which really helped with the red ash was a weakened version but did the job.

I usually filter tue cleaning fluid thru a coffee filter paper let it settle then pour it off and use it again
  • @perbhjlund1765
There are several reasons why there are companies that clean filters. 1. they use hot liquid for washing. 2 they recycle the liquid. 3 their cleaning liquid is filtered and the waste is disposed of correctly. 4 there is a guarantee on their work. Not like your solution, where chemical liquid and particles run directly onto the ground and contribute to contaminating the groundwater. It doesn't matter now, it's your grandchildren who can't drink water, unless it's cleaned WITH chemistry to remove solutions that you and others use now. think about it
  • Mel, could you have brazed the drilled out bolt in place, maybe clamping it in position? Though perhaps tack welding in place will be sufficient. Clever plan to use the bolt to seat the sensor, very resourceful.
  • @timfaulkner852
Top job mell that's exactly how I do mine, keep flushing till there's no foam it can take 45mins with jet wash, the soots not a problem, it's the ash left behind 👍
  • @JxH
You should go downtown and blow air backwards through the DPF, wafting all the soot into the air, so that the circle of irony is complete.
  • Most of the people doing these videos are long winded and boring you on the other hand are great to listen to for the common sense you bring to vehicle maintenance. Thank you.
  • @alanhutchings6713
did mine an old 520 bmw took it of soaked it in a big bucket with two dishwasher tabs and half a bag of soda crystals for an hour washed it out with a hose and refitted power restored and no lights on cost about a quid 😁😁😁😁😁
  • @brainbreen118
I leave the DPF on the vehicle. Just disconnect the exhaust joints and cover the exhaust holes with plastic bags. Then stick the powerwasher lance up its snout. You don't have to disconnect any sensors as they do break unfortunately. I just fitted a new NOX sensor, but all the threads stripped removing the old one. I just drill it out, sit the sensor in place and mig the sensor. Saves a lot of hassle
  • @aliattock2530
Excellent way to clear dpf how needs to go to garage looking forward for further video thanks
  • @wheelyliving4093
a thought Mel, as I wish to remove my DPF ...my idea is to remove the exhaust like yours, then cut a hole through the ceramic to put a straight pipe through, welded to each end. This way it looks like the dpf is there, but the gases are going straight through, and have the dpf shut down on the ecu. :)
