The sad thing is dogs naturally bark when they sense danger so all the dogs would have been wiped out almost instantly
  • the cut to the silence as we see the deaf daughter’s perspective is BRILLIANT. imagine being surrounded by chaos and not being able to hear a thing

Now that's how you do a movie. Can't believe this is the same John that was on The Office. His directing career is getting to far beyond this. Phenomenal job.

The degree of realism in this opening scene is mind boggling.

The combination of silence and chaos was an EXCELLENT choice.

The dog tried to warn them like "hey guys it really smells like aliens, we should get out of here" but nobody listened
  • @Walls2008
The presence of the dogs here, and the fact that we never see them in the first movie, tells us a sad story....

I just love everything about this opening. The cinematography, the one track shots, the acting, the fact that there is no score throughout. It all feels so real and it had me on the edge of my seat all the way throughout.

I love the way the opening plays on the fact that nobody knew they were attracted to sound. It ramps the tension up so much for the audience
  • The way the father held onto his daughter when she fell onto the floor when they got in through the door made me jump. You can tell he was so afraid of her getting trampled by the scared people running into the Inn but also determined not to let it happen. I love this sequel, the attention to detail is just chef kisses ✨
  • and that's why you always keep your phone on silent during the movies

Fun fact: The camera that was in the back of the car that Emily Blunt was driving broke off its hinge when she started backing up, but it broke in such a way that it perfectly zoomed in on her face as she backed up. Such a perfect movie mistake that not too many people know about.

The audio design, and in some parts the lack there of, was extremely well done. Especially in those first 26 seconds which hook you in and make you wonder when the scene is taking place; before or after the aliens took over.

Can't believe they trained those creatures to do all those stunts, must have taken a while
  • A lot of the acting and reacting in this opening feels very natural, like how you'd expect people to respond. Particularly the mixture of people leaving as soon as they see the meteor and those standing and watching. And how the mum is always reassuring her children even in the chaos. I doubt any one could pull the "horror movie logic" card for this scene.

I like the way how the POV changes from one half of the family to the other half, still see the others too! For example at 8:28 you can see Lee and Reagan in the background running away to the bar to hide or when Reagan gets out of the car to help the others one scene before because Evelyn and Marcus had a car accident. We can see the car. Love this sequel!
