Hey! How are you? My name is Moose. Today, I'm doing a video that's a bit different from my usual content. I usually make gameplay and theorycrafting content for Honkai: Star Rail, but today I wanted to discuss just how much better I feel the HSR dev team does their job than the Genshin Impact dev team. I have nothing but love for Genshin, but I quit it a few months ago due to it became stale and boring for me, and I feel it's become that way because of the many bad choices the developers made. TRIGGER WARNING: This contains opinions. I am not worse than H*tler for thinking Star Rail's devs made better decisions than Genshin's devs.

This video might be filled with many opinions, but just to be clear: I just want Genshin to be better than it already is. I love the game and love the characters in it. I just wish the dev team would be as good as Honkai: Star Rail's. I don't hate the game, I just wish it was developed well enough so that I can enjoy playing it.

Genshin dev : "we're not gonna add another endgame bcs we afraid it's gonna be to hard and cause anxiety to our players" HSR dev : "dear players, we add another endgame and it's fucking hard. Goodluck"

I will say HSR does a good job making players care about the NPCs. Like I’ll never forget the Mara struck women we had to kill, who only wanted to see her boyfriend one last time. And when we found him, turn out he was an awful person who only cared about living longer. And sure their models were generic, but the story made you care for them

i mean genshin will never change cause its filled with a toxic positive environment . I don't blame the devs for treating them so bad because even if the devs give them shit the players will still accept it and smile in their face . meanwhile in star rail while it might be a turn based . And i disagree with the opinion that a turn based is a niche genre cause turn based has its own fun and playability and it has its own audience . star rail has players who criticize the game and devs that listen to the player and care about the game . and we should continue to criticize and send feedback to the devs to improve the game

It's very impressive to be as generous as HSR and still be challenging! It's the perfect balance between too-easy-because-you-get-too-many-free-things and Genshin level.

The thing I hated about Genshin's combat was how they handled bosses - long periods of people immune to damage, and very short burst windows in which to actually do anything.

Funny thing about Arlan being widely considered the weakest character is I've heard multiple times he was excellent in the beta, so much so that he was retuned after to avoid him becoming a Bennett. Poor little guy got nerfed out the starting gate.

It's just the fact Star Rail has added so many modes, there are a bunch of things that would be limited events in Genshin that are permanent now, they added in harder content for those that want it and that can give people a reason to build characters and try and make their teams stronger constantly. Genshin just ignores the players, important story info is lost in events that easily could have been permanent, still nothing to use built teams for but Spiral Abyss so you can lose any reason to actually build characters after a point, all combat events are still time trials somehow, Geo still exists the way it is, not even an extra world level for those that want enemies to not instantly die to their max levelled characters, and the most frustrating thing is a big part of the community that defends it and acts like the lack of endgame options, or just options for casuals with built characters and teams is a good thing so they attack anyone that points out the glaring lack of anything to work toward.

One of the big things people complain about star rail is the power creep. Bc of Dan heng and jingliu. People forget we got ganyu, xiao and hu tao at about the same time at 1.3 and 1.4. Power creep only feels like a thing bc there aren’t a crap ton of characters yet.

I feel like the toxic positivity on the generousity could also stem from Genshin being the majority of said game's playerbase's very first gacha game. They never felt the generosity of other dev teams so they have to cope with what they have. I'm someone who played one too many gachas and Genshin is so shit in giving rewards compared to other games lol

As a HI3 player. It is really hard to catch up and gain new players with the game with all the storyline and characters. With the success of Genshin Impact mihoyo/hoyoverse got more active players than before like a lot more. They want to introduce Honkai-verse to the players of Genshin that only played or knew Mihoyo from genshin without playing 7 years of storyline of HI3. Everyone starts fresh so giving incentives like easy pull or free 5 star with only months of release can help make it more popular or as popular as Genshin did during the pandemic.

One thing i'd like to add is that i LOVE HSR MC. Aether or Lumine, on the other hand, felt really underwhelming and had no personality whatsoever, and they talked through Paimon on top of that. It felt like HSR handled characters and expressions way better than Genshin. Like they actually care about their characters, even the 4 stars. Cmiiw.

I also want to add more that a former Genshin theorycrafter tenten (who is also a game dev) said in his twitch stream that HSR devs are more experienced and willing to expand the playerbase while Genshin devs have no clue or direction of where they want to go. that's why I started HSR with my eyes closed

on the photo event, the genshin one was: take 5 pics of fucking hilitros, next days of birds next to the tp, next day of cristalflies next to statue of the seven, next one, of the serpent mobs in thedesert. star rail: take picture of characters that were with you along your jurney for the past months and see your memories, expecially as on next update we get the new world i found it as, since we're leaving this world, let's rewind your best memories so far. it was amazing, was touching, had fun playiing it, instead of fotographing fucking birds

I've heard some people say that Genshin isn't as generous and/or it doesn't have QoL because it has no competition and hsr is doing it to gain player count. While that may be true, it doesn't mean that the playerbase should be complacent and not demand more out of Genshin. Being complacent and making excuses is a sign of the lack of self-respect that Genshin stans have imo.
  • @rikkucrowe
Its hard to believe there the same company givin how differently the devs treat the player base Also a big point for star rail is not every charater is 1 of 5 weapons you get some really interesting ideas thanks to this
  • @darkterror6580
To put it simply HSR devs care about the game that they're actually making it won TGA and gave out rewards to players and a free 5 star while genshin u get aloy LMAO HSR humor is simply funny you get to interact with characters and the game just feels over all lively
  • @shuryt
There's one thing that sets HSR apart from Genshin that needs to be considered, and that's competition. There are tons of games that operate with a turn-based system. Whereas Genshin, except for ToF which flopped because it was too greedy and the grind was too heavy/slow for my taste, stands alone. This is going to change in the coming years with a lot of new gacha games that seem quite impressive visually and solid in gameplay. (I'm looking at you, Wuthering Waves.) Genshin will have to adapt because, as you said, the activities that reward grinding are limited in Genshin. Personally, I'm quite curious to see how the gacha universe evolves and specifically how Genshin will hold up against the upcoming competition.

Regardless of whether I keep playing it or not, I am glad Genshin exists. It sure does make my Honkai 3rd and SR budgets bigger! All that money feeding my fav games is welcome anyday XD Jokes aside, the only reason I stopped playing Genshin was just how much time is required to keep up with it. New contact takes a lot of time, events take a lot of time, dailies take a lot of time. Everything takes so much time!
  • great points, something i have an issue with in genshin that isn't as prominently talked about/'important' is the disposability of all the characters and such. Because the game doesn't have a central cast besides the mc and Paimon and Dainsleif who visits annually, no characters are really relevant once their nation's drama is solved. Look at Dehya and Diluc for instance, they're two characters that cherished and took care of us in their respective story arcs, but since they're confined to their region they've just vanished from relevance story wise and will just be replaced by their counterpart for the next region (Navia cough cough). First time i really though abt this was during Ayaka's story quest when she was talking about us, her first true friends, leaving her behind when we resume out journey. cameos during events never seem to do the relationships we've formed justice imo. The closest thing to a recurring character being relevant to the plot was Albedo's stories, he's someone with ties to the main story's plot, and was seemingly designed in our image, while also having a fascination with us, but of course new players wouldn't know of that since the majority of his story content took place in limited time events...
