A Terminally-Ill Man's Last Birthday Alive

We’d like to thank Mr Mani for trusting our team and allowing us to document his journey thus far. In our time with him, we’ve come to witness the extraordinary strength, love and care he shows to everyone around him, even at his lowest moments. During filming, he shared with us that his wish of going to Universal Studios was actually for his daughter, and he was simply very excited to spend time with his family outside of the nursing home, just like they used to. It’s been a really powerful experience for us to have these conversations with him, and we’re glad that we could help capture his special day out with his family 🙂 It’s Mr Mani’s 49th birthday today on the 1st of May. "Maybe if people are stressed, they will say "I want to die", but saying that is easy, but going through the last stage is very lonely." This line hits me hard honestly.

The fact hes still there in the hospital trying to live his best life at the moment is very emotional. Happy birth day brother.

For him to smile and say "Countdown starts" that's how real it gets , gave me goosebumps.

This hits hard....just makes you think how lucky we are to be alive. My prayers are with Mr Mani and his family.

I think this was how my dad felt The night before he died, he hugged me and told me he won't die, he'd be at my graduation, wedding, etc And he died the next day. It was so heartbreaking, but i don't know how to mourn and deal with those feelings Its been 3 years. He had late discovered cancer. He was 49. May his soul rest in peace 🕊️💕

As an Oncologist I face these kinda situations almost daily and counselling the terminal patients is really really hard on our nerves! fewtimes I broke down after counselling! So you can imagine how difficult it is for the patient going through it! I wish him good time whatever he has left with! May he spend it with his family! After coming to this field as specialist of 7 years I started appreciating life more n more my perspective about life changed drastically!

I had a cousin. He died when he was 19. Found out he had cancer at 17. It was a few weeks after O level results. He was really excited to be able to study to become a nurse but cancer happened. He was devastated. Didn't want to see anyone, when people visit he would pretend to sleep. It was so sad to see him go like that.

A year later he is strong may God give your life back mr mani.... Get well

Randomly being told you have terminal cancer is literally the biggest fear I have. I can’t imagine the pain this family has gone through.

The joy on his face after seeing his family despite his pain is priceless. He deserves many more such birthdays.

This is such a poignant reminder for us all to treasure the time we have with our families and loved ones, cuz you will never know how long that will last. As someone who's father is also diagnosed with stage 4 renal cancer, this hits especially hard. Mr Mani, I sincerely wish you and your family the very best and that you will stay strong in the face of adversity. Thank you for sharing your precious moments with us.

"When they close their eyes and mention my name; I'll be there with them" That's absolutely right, you will never die to them, brother. May you have a happy birthday and get to share more beautiful memories with your family.

So nice of him to call his Filipino caregiver "Kuya".
