From increasing militarisation in the South China Sea, and the deteriorating of decades-old alliances, to a massive manufacturing diaspora in the region, we examine the quandary the Sino-US rivalry has created for Southeast Asia.

  • I'm Filipino, and I don't trust both sides. It's time that ASEAN should be more independent! We don't want to pick a side, we just want peace!
  • Most of the Southeast Asia just want to have peace. We don’t choose side.

I hope that ASEAN nations will not have the need to pick a side but rather be their own powerhouse. We win as one my fellow SEA people.

"We don't want to be forced to have to choose, because there is no winner" wise words sir

US China Trade War ASEAN : Yes, you two keep fighting and bring us more money.

"Americans have always been there for the Philippines" Lmao, you mean taking over your territory from Spain because of the spanish american war?
  • As a Filipino, we just want to be respected as an Independent country. Duterte constantly stressed how America still treats us like we're still under their colony. There's no question that we need help, we just want it without the conditions attached to it, just like how you interfere with our policy and law that defeats the purpose of us being an independent country.

Global politics is never about picking a side. It’s about how to get the best terms. Your friend today can be your competitor even enemy tmr.

Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia have a steady growing economy for the past years. Keep your rivalry amongst yourselves and leavr SEAN alone.

The last time we choose side in cold war, there's a massive killing
  • As a southeast Asian: definitely not China, but at the same time, definitely not US.

I'm Indonesian and I don't like both sides. I agree to those who said that SEA should unite, especially the Southeast Asia Archipelago.

This is a great docuseries. I binge-watched all four episodes. Thanks to CNA Insider for creating this. And it's true — we in the ASEAN just want peace and stability. With the emergence of the middle class in ASEAN, what we need are opportunities and good problems — not conflict.
