I spoke with David Frum, a Canadian-American political commentator and a former speechwriter for President George W. Bush. He is currently a senior editor at The Atlantic as well as an MSNBC contributor. We talked about why some republicans followed trump and others are repelled by him, how Kamala Harris can navigate the criticism that she’s too progressive, and why it wasn’t fair for it to be left to her to understand the root causes of our border issues.

Trump doesn't deserve another term as president of the USA.
  • @MsBerries25
forget trump. let's focus on Kamala Harris and her vision for a free America!!
  • I am so grateful you're doing this coverage, Katie. Just donated to KH. Let's do this, friends.

I learned a lot from this. Mr. Frum is a conservative to whom I will continue to listen.
  • Ms. Couric, thank you for having David Frum on your channel. Always insightful, he has a powerful combination of exceptional intellect and knowledge! It was an excellent discussion. Bravo!

Thank you for a very refreshing pov! I know one thing for sure: this 63 year old white registered republican woman will be happily voting for Ms. Harris in November. It's time for a major change!

Mr. Kristol, thank you so much for your courageous determination, wisdom about Trump and your politics. I agree with you!

I beg to differ. The book jd Vance wrote was not an important book. It was a shameless grab at a political career.

Now this is someone who you can learn from and I wish more conservative's were like him.
  • Mitt Romney is a hero, imho, among Republicans.... he spoke the truth...
  • @katc9061
People worship him because they believe he was sent by God which means they never read the Word Of God because Character matters.

Thank you Katie for all the great interviews - the news cycle has been a bit relentless and I love how cool, calm, analytic you are. Wish you were running the news or teach journalism
  • This is extraordinary Katie. This is where the news can still be found, great approach. I am a fan. [PS This is Brett, I am on my wife's account this evening.]

Katie.....your skill as a podcaster/interviewer gets better and better, and it's always been excellent. Re: the many GOP's who flipped from anti-DJT to MAGA's, these people sometimes have excellent capabilities but anyone who trades their integrity and alignment with democracy for a membership in the Trump Clan has sealed their fate and clearly demonstrated their limited intellect. We all know the limited life cycle of Far Right movements and their leaders. Re: Mr. Frum's prognostications for Harris.....as most conservatives do, he omits certain critical factors from his calculus in determining voter support. One such variable is "hope". Look at what that variable did for Obama.....its influence resulted in the impossible, a person of color elected President. Harris (perhaps inadvertently) brings 'hope' into a political climate literally begging for such relief. It's that variable, along with a solid resume that IMO will produce the first female president.
