Interest rates are 'always lower under a Coalition government': Dutton

Published 2024-05-19
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton says “every credible economic commentator” has indicated the federal budget puts pressure on inflation rather than releasing it.

“And unless the Reserve Bank Governor can get inflation back into that bandwidth, she’s not going to reduce interest rates any time soon,” Mr Dutton said during a media conference on Monday.

“I want rates to come down as quickly as possible, which is why you need to elect a Coalition government at the next election.

“Interest rates are always lower under a Coalition government than they are under a Labor government.”
