Sounds similar to Scaredy Engines, doesn’t it.

  • This is actually my favorite version of the Duncan gets spooked theme because it reminds me of the amazing music from Scaredy Engines.
  • "Duncan never found out what he truly saw that night..." "And between you and me? I don't think he ever will..."
  • This score made this episode a top favorite by many. Plus not to mention the fact that the creators were not afraid to experiment with a dark scary themed episodes. By adding a realistic story of a engine literally falling off a bridge, falling into the ravine , drowning and never been found again. And to workmen saying that on a night when the moon is full that they can see the engine trying to cross the bridge but never reaching the other side. That story alone was enough to make the episode what it is.
  • But every now and then when the moon is full you can see a little engine trying to return home But he never reaches the other side.... Brrr this episode was creepy and the music beautiful

  • Thomas: There's no such thing as ghosts. Who's there!? 😨 (Chains clanking) Thomas: Something's got me! (Wheeshes) (Whistle blowing) Thomas: THE G-G-G-GHOST WHISTLE!!! 😱👻

It sounds more like the instrumental from Scaredy Engines. Amazing how just half a step down can change the whole atmosphere.

The chilling music and the photograph of the misty forest is perfectly eerie
  • Narrator: Percy arrived at the start of the workmen's break. Kelly was preparing to tell a ghost story to pass the time. (Owl hoots) Percy: You know, whenever that owl hoots, the fog rolls in. Kelly: That's right, Percy. This story is a legend that when there's a mist about, there's a ghost about, too. Alfie: What ghost?! Max: Rubbish! Monty: It's just a cheap story. Jack: Shush, you two! Take it away, Kelly. Narrator: So, Kelly did and began. Kelly: Long ago, there was an old steam truck that used to work at Maithwaite Mines. He was seething with fury and rage. Someone had stolen one of his headlamps. Narrative: He paused, then winked at Percy, who chuckled. He'd had seen strange things at the mines. Kelly: So, the truck, which was now One-Eyed, chased one of the loaders into the deepest, darkest part of the forest. Isobella: T-T-Then what happened, Kelly? Kelly: Fortunately, the loader escaped. Though some say, on this very night, the One-Eyed Truck still lurks this forest, whenever the fog rolls in. They say that he goes around, blowing his whistle and looking a headlamp. Maybe he wants yours. Narrator: There was a long silence. Percy: Wow, Kelly! That was a great story. I guess Edward isn't the only one who tells ghost stories. Jack: Yeah, that was the best one yet. Narrator: But, Alfie was nervous. Alfie: I sure hope I never meet the One-Eyed Truck. Isobella: (Chuckles) So, what do think of that, you two? Max: What a load of rubbish! Monty: Exactly! Just a bunch of stupid things! Kelly: Break's passed! Back to work you all!

This is even better sounding than the original! I always thought this theme was one of the more hauntingly beautiful pieces of the Thomas series. At the end of each note when the high-pitch ping sounds, it makes me think of the little engine falling to its death into the ravine beneath the old iron bridge.

Run for your lives! Ghost Trains are coming back in every Halloween night with the eerie sounds of the ghostly whistles calling your name.

At the smelters, all Percy could think about was Edward's ghost engine. Thomas knew Percy was scared, so he teased him even more. "What's that up there?!" Thomas squeaked. "Is it a spook?" "It's just a piece of twisted scrap..." Percy said nervously. "...isn't it??" Thomas was having fun. He kept on teasing Percy. "Careful, the ghost engine doesn't get you!" Thomas said. "There's no such thing as ghosts!" snapped Percy. Duck felt sorry for Percy "Nobody's brave all the time." Said Duck. "But I'm not a scaredy engine!" Percy insisted.

A long time ago, a little engine was returning home. It was a misty moonlit night. As the engine crossed the old iron bridge, he suddenly lost control and plunged over the side into the swamp below. *SPLASH* He was never found again. But many workmen will tell you that, when the moon is full, they've seen the little engine try to get home. But he never reaches the other side.
  • Very dark and spooky! You know as soon as one of the engines says “rubbish” they’re either about to come face to face with the ghost or at least “only insects that shine brightly at night, but to Duncan they looked like an engine”

This episode originally aired on the 15th of October 1998. That means this episode has been spooking fans for just over TWENTY-THREE YEARS! That also shows how long ago Season 5 was, and this was the third-to-last episode of the season, coming before Rusty & The Boulder and Snow.

This is my favorite version of the theme. It's more ominous and creepy.
  • @Sean_Last1995
it's that whistling note in the theme that gives me the shivers it's like an engine is screaming or something.
