More than 10,000 people named Bob have entered the world of sports. Today, there are only nine. Bobs are special people, and in losing them to retirement, we stand to lose more than we might imagine.

P.S. This is the 1930s high school basketball game Jon was talking about, at the 6:38 mark:    • The H. V. Porter Films: 1932 to 1936 ...

"But he was a Bob. He played a note in this symphony. He mattered." That was unexpectedly motivational.

"You die twice. Once when you stop breathing, and another, a bit later on, when someone says your name for the last time." You have resurrected some of these long forgotten Bobs. Thank you.
  • @uRDM
I love how he exclusively refers to every bob as "Bob" and never by just their last name. Like when he describes Bob Fitzsimmons vs. Jack Johnson he says "Bob vs. Johnson" instead of "Fitzsimmoms vs. Johnson." It adds yet another layer to the Bob unity

Rest In Peace Mr Gibson, you made America a better place, you made Baseball a better sport, we’ll never forget you.
  • "What have we learned? Absolutely Nothing. Less than nothing. That's just the way I like it." Never change, Jon
  • "Throughout his entire life, absolutely nothing and nobody on Earth could stop Bob Gibson. So they moved the Earth itself, and that didn't work either." Absolutely brilliant. I love you, Jon. Thank you for what you do.

for anyone who may be coming back to this following the passing of the great Bob Gibson, his segment begins around 24:40
  • I bet Bob Cyclone had some good stories, I also bet he loved to talk about how he used to be a professional boxer lol
  • "What did we learn? Absolutely nothing. Less than nothing! That's just the way I like it." That's it that's the show

"...this completely arbitrary and unasked for cross section" I think Jon Bois just summed up his entire concept in 8 words. He's so freaking good that he captivates us with topics that are otherwise entirely meaningless.

Hey everybody, quick story about Bob Cousy in Blue Chips. I got work as a production assistant for an upcoming documentary on the NBA 75th season. We had to interview Bob Cousy, currently in his 90s. He told a ton of stories but he talked about the free throws in blue chips while we were setting up. According to Bob, he hit 21 in a row between all of the takes. Now i can't confirm it for a fact, but he was very self deferential and humble, not one to brag. So personally I believe him.

Throughout his life, absolutely nothing and nobody on the planet Earth could stop Bob Gibson. So they moved he Earth itself. And that didn't work either. Rest in Power, Bob.

jon: i'm doing a video about athletes named bob... me: okay. jon: it's 42 minutes long me: i'm listening jon: and it's part 1 me: i'll clear my schedule
  • Two things 1. Jon just made me never be able to think of people named Bob as real people ever again 2. Whenever I complain about Jon not posting enough I will just remember that he had to spend countless hours sifting through names of Bobs some so obscure they were only found in old newspapers
  • So I was rewatching this video today, and decided to look up Bob Gibson to see some of what he's been up to since baseball. I found out that he literally died two days ago, on October 2nd, 2020. Rest in peace to one of the greatest pitchers who has ever lived.

One of Bob Cyclone's losses was to Larry Boardman whom had just two fights before going up against him. Larry would then go on to have a 45-10-1 career record, defeat multiple lightweight champions in his career, and peak as the #2 lightweight contender in the world.

"Player B tried this reckless maneuver known as 'doing something'"
  • @Pallethands
Me: There is no way I'm watching 42 minutes of Bobs Me 42 Minutes later: I really want to see part 2
  • RIP Bob Gibson 1935-2020 Thank you for giving us the greatest season in the history of baseball.
